About

With over 20 years of experience in IT operations, compliance, risk management, and knowledge management, I’ve built my career as a Data & Process Specialist focused on improving efficiency, managing complexity, and driving digital transformation. I thrive in international environments where autonomy and problem-solving are key, and I enjoy bridging the gap between end-users and IT engineering to ensure reliable, secure, and timely service delivery. Recently, I’ve taken an exciting new step by founding Dutch Descent, where I bring the same analytical mindset and eye for detail to genealogical and historical research. I help individuals and families trace their ancestry, build family trees, and turn archival materials into meaningful family stories. What connects both worlds is my passion for uncovering patterns, creating clarity from complexity, and delivering results that truly matter—whether that’s optimizing processes in a large organization or helping someone discover their roots.

Compliance & Operational Risk Lead

Jan 2023Dec 2024 · 1 yr 11 mos

  • ) Ensuring SE&C Application Landscape Integrity and Availability:
  • In my first year in this role, I successfully maintained the operational availability of the Safety, Environment & Carbon (SE&C) application landscape by implementing robust compliance strategies. As the compliance focal point for SE&C Operations, I identified and integrated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) into the team's performance evaluations, resulting in a reduction in compliance-related incidents.
  • Note that the guideline was defined in Shell’s Lines of Defense (LOD) model as used for Information Risk Management (IRM).
  • ) Design and Implementation of an Operational Compliance Dashboard:
  • Within the first month in the role, I spearheaded the design, development, and implementation of a real-time operational compliance dashboard. Critical data on tickets, issues, changes, controls, and cybersecurity scans were consolidated in one place, improving visibility into the operational status. Additionally, this dashboard enhanced collaboration between Information & Digital Technology (IDT) and business teams. This solution was adopted by multiple teams in the following quarter.
  • ) Streamlining Contract Management Processes:
  • I developed and documented a new process for the accurate and comprehensive management of contract data, which led to an improvement in data accuracy within the first three months of implementation. This process was then rolled out to the overarching team, further enhancing operational efficiency at that level.
  • ) Strengthening Stakeholder Relationships:
  • I successfully built and managed trust-based relationships with key stakeholders within Service Assurance & Information Risk Management. Through regular collaboration and alignment over the year, I contributed to the improvement of SE&C activities in line with organizational objectives.

  • ) Supporting SE&C Objectives through Data and Digital Technologies:
  • From January 2017 to May 2023, I managed the IT products and services of the Safety, Environment & Carbon (SE&C) portfolio as an IT Operations Manager. Using data, advanced analytics, and digital technologies, I supported Shell’s SE&C objectives, including Goal Zero and Net Zero Emissions, resulting in improved operational efficiency.
  • ) End-to-End Responsibility for the Shell Environmental Reporting System (SERS):
  • From January 2017 to July 2021, I was responsible for the Shell Environmental Reporting System (SERS), an application elevated to business-critical status in 2018/2019 and underwent major upgrades in 2019/2020. These upgrades increased system reliability, and the system received the highest possible audit rating (“good”). In recognition of these efforts, I was nominated for the VP CIO award in 2021.
  • ) Managing Sub-Portfolios after Organizational Restructuring:
  • Following an organizational restructuring in August 2021, I managed applications within the sub-portfolios of Product Stewardship, Soil & Groundwater, and Circulatory & Ecosystem until May 2023.
