• We built a unique retina camera (https://verily.com/solutions/retinal-camera-service) which can capture images used to diagnose diabetic retinopathy. The camera is much smaller, cheaper and easier to use than similar cameras.
• I was the TL of platforms software. I focused on system robustness, update infrastructure, reliability and scalability. I wrote C++, bash and Python, took care of our CI. I also managed team of SWEs contributing across the stack.

• I developed embedded software for small connected medical devices, including the Verily Study Watch, an implantable nerve stimulator (see galvani.bio), hearing aids and a connectivity hub. I worked across many different microcontrollers and platforms, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), machine learning systems and occasionally Android apps.

• NIC Software on Platforms team: High performance networking for GPU ML-model training and other applications with low-level host libraries and NIC firmware.
• I did a two week rotation working at a data center diagnosing problems, replacing motherboards and swapping bad hard drives.

Jun 2015 – Sep 2015 · 3 mos · Cambridge, MA

• Worked on the Google Cloud monitoring (Stackdriver) platform in AngularJS and Python. Dramatically reduced page load times across much of the site by modifying it to load as a single-page app.
• Built a mobile web application at a company hackathon using HTML 5, JQuery and Flask that allows people with Massachusetts driver’s licenses to register to become an organ donor by simply scanning it with their phone.

Jun 2014 – Jul 2014 · 1 mo · Houghton, MI

• Before we’d signed any paying customers or raised any formal capital and were still working out of a house in Houghton, MI, I worked with 3 other engineers adding features to a Rails application that eventually became the platform that today serves 12M+ students from all over the world.
• Fun fact: I also drove all the way around Lake Michigan twice that summer, meeting users at conferences and Universities.
