Anoop V. — CEO
A spreadsheet flattens a business into something it isn't. I spent over a decade inside companies, where margins are negotiated, strategies are compromises, and uncertainty is the norm. As a management consultant, I worked on the problems that eventually show up in earnings reports: margin improvement across eight countries for a global food company, category profitability turnaround for a major US grocery chain, growth strategy for a Latin American bank entering new segments, business unit review and growth strategy for an Indian IT services provider. Later, in operating roles at Honeywell and Microsoft, I saw strategy from the other side—what survives implementation and what doesn't. That experience changes what I see when I look at a stock. The so-called moat, the story, whether management is solving the right problem, whether the strategy can survive contact with execution. But I've also learned to distrust narratives, including my own. Stories seduce; they smooth over uncertainty and feel like insight. The antidote is data, not as a replacement for judgment, but as a constraint on it. At Capitalmind, we build portfolios systematically, led by factors like momentum that have earned their place through decades of evidence. We let data tell us when we're wrong. And data reveals something else: markets are not efficient information processors. They're collections of people deciding under uncertainty, shaped by biases that behavioural research has documented for decades. Mispricings persist because psychology does. Our edge, if we have one, is asking different questions and staying patient enough to let the answers play out. I lead Equity, Hybrid, and Multi-Asset strategies at Capitalmind AMC. I write about some of these ideas in Mint and other publications. If you enjoy thinking about markets this way—or disagree entirely—I'm always up for a conversation.
