Inez Aponte — Co-Founder
Performance storyteller. Narrative strategist. Community weaver. I've been a performance storyteller for over 25 years. The child of immigrants from Puerto Rico and Suriname, raised across two continents, I came to storytelling because it was an art form that perfectly crossed the distance between people, cultures, generations, worldviews. My show Un|Earthed weaves Surinamese folklore with my own family history to explore colonialism, identity, and belonging. I've performed at Cheltenham Literature Festival, WOMAD, Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, and living rooms and hilltops in between. But stories don't only live on stage. Twenty years ago I watched An Inconvenient Truth with my baby son in my arms and understood something that's shaped the rest of my work: the facts weren't going to save us. The story we tell about economics - that growth is progress, that technology will fix everything, that we stand apart from nature - is having devastating consequences. It must now be rewritten. The other part of my practice works in that space: with changemakers, organisations, and communities to find the stories they actually need to be telling, and the spaces where those stories can land. Partners have included WWF, the Soil Association, Schumacher College, Natural England, and the British Council. Three ways I work: On stage — performing traditional tales and original work, including Un|Earthed (unearthedshow.com) In the room — designing gatherings where people genuinely connect and bridge divides One-to-one — coaching leaders and changemakers to communicate with honesty, precision, and presence → inezaponte.com | beautifuleconomies.com "It wasn't just about concepts; it was about connection - with others in the group, with my personal and professional network, and with the fundamental values that drive real societal change." - Beautiful Economies participant - --------- Banner photo by Matt Collamer on Unsplash:"I met Michael in a Boston subway station. I told him I liked his sign. “What matters is what it means to you,” he told me. I asked what it meant to him. “Doing a deed or expressing kindness to another person without expecting anything in return,” he replied.
