Tejus C. — Software Engineer
I'm a Researcher & Engineer primarily interested in database internals, compute/storage architectures and devices. I dedicate most of my time irrespective of the role I'm currently employed in to do hands-on exploration of database internals, distributed systems, storage systems, and performance debugging, continually pushing my understanding through independent research and experimentation. Currently a Research Associate at IISc’s DREAM:Lab, where I work at the intersection of distributed systems, federated learning, and energy-efficient computing. My recent work includes building and evaluating federated learning frameworks and optimization methods, which led to publications in prestigious venues like JPDC and Euro-Par. Previously, I worked in the R&D teams at Manhattan Associates and Maybank, where I focused on full-stack software and systems development, building microservices, mobile platforms, react libraries and backend services. I also gained extensive experience in debugging complex legacy systems, resolving race conditions in distributed transactions and heterogeneous communication scenarios. I also lead Vitality Systems Inc, an open-source org which is building the next generation object storage engine and supporting software designed for modern analytical workloads and disaggregated architectures, a reflection of my deep interest in storage and systems design. I head a team of 10+, define product direction and use cases, prototype and build core components like UAM and product services, and also focus on the hardest but most important task: motivating the team and explaining why we are doing what we are doing. Outside of tech, I enjoy living fully and exploring a variety of passions. I’ve played guitar and mandolin for years, led my college music team to multiple intercollegiate wins, and performed across South India with my metal band. I love having deep, philosophical conversations, shaped by diverse experiences starting from my childhood till now, from picking up and delivering boxes at shopping malls, where I saw logistics up close, to interning at a hedge fund, where I learned to read annual reports. In the long term, I hope to grow into a leader, who will bring together experiences across research, software engineering, systems design, open source, product design, and leadership to build the next generation of technical tools with a product first design.
