About

My career has focused on building foundational platforms that expand access to technology at scale. Early in my career at PurpleYogi, I worked on the Yogi Internet Discovery Engine, an early machine-learning system designed to help users navigate and discover relevant content on the rapidly growing web. This work explored intelligent content categorization and recommendation long before such systems became mainstream. At Google, I worked during the critical phase when the internet was expanding into emerging markets. Much of the infrastructure required for global participation simply did not exist. My work focused on solving first-principles problems that enabled the internet to scale globally. This included building systems such as Google Map Maker, which enabled communities to map regions with no prior digital coverage across nearly 192 countries; creating multilingual infrastructure through Indic font initiatives and search internationalization; developing transliteration tools that allowed users to type Indian languages using English keyboards; and designing landmark-based navigation systems adapted to India’s infrastructure realities. These efforts helped remove structural barriers that prevented millions of users from participating in the digital ecosystem. Following Google, I continued working at the intersection of technology platforms, product strategy, and design leadership — including enterprise platform work at Tavant Technologies, advising startups as a Venture Partner at Accel, building design-led product strategy through Design Ventures, and leading consumer platform design initiatives at Tata Digital. Across these roles, the consistent theme has been building systems that translate powerful technologies into usable products for large populations. Today, as AI becomes the next major computing platform, I am excited to be helping design the foundational layers that enable intelligent systems to scale globally and responsibly.

Google Maps

Apr 2009Mar 2010 · 11 mos

  • Driving directions in India could not be launched for lack of highly local data. The launch of Map Maker brought in a useful amount of high quality user-contributed map data. Driving directions as implemented in the developed world was inappropriate for India since road signs were practically non-existent, people did not know road names and traffic rules were not consistent. Therefore an innovation in the form of last-mile and landmark based directions was designed and introduced in India - which was later adopted all over the world.
