About

NB: If I don't know you and you want to be added to my network, say something less generic than "I'd like to add you to my professional network" or YOU WILL NOT BE ADDED. I'm all about coordinating people and working with them to make good things happen. Whether that means helping to organize a fun event or helping to find the right person to fill the right position at a company, I find ways to keep people happy while doing all the hard stuff behind the scenes. Specialties: Cat-herding (i.e. meeting scheduling, people wrangling, phone call juggling, travel arranging), LEGO organizing, land-mine aversion, holding on to tiger tails, stalling candidates who are stuck in pipelines (while making them feel heard and appreciated), general secretarial skills, a desire to find better ways to do whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing. DIVERSITY. EQUITY. INCLUSION. (yes, all three)

A low key gathering

Cat Herder/Tiger-Tail Wrangler

Feb 2010Oct 2010 · 8 mos

  • Asked by New York Times Bestselling Author Neil Gaiman to head up the committee coordinating the Low Key Gathering event at the House on the Rock to celebrate Neil's novel American Gods over Hallowe'en weekend. I worked with a stellar team of volunteers and the wonderful staff at the House on the Rock to make this a Halloween none of us will forget! As an aside, I was also responsible for an auction (independent of the event) that allowed a select few hardship cases to make it to HotR for the weekend event, with additional proceeds benefiting the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

Nov 1998Aug 2007 · 8 yrs 9 mos

  • Worked as a generic floorperson at a bath/body shop and at Lee's Comics for short periods after doing time (5 years) at Rasputin Music. The independent record store taught me how to be a decent manager, how to be an excellent receiving manager, how to set up in-store appearances of artists - and get people to show up for them, how to babysit grown-ups who acted 12, how to babysit grown-up bosses who acted 12, how to react to rude people with tact, and how to be truly bitter and jaded about what constitutes "music worth listening to". The experience also taught me my limits and taught me how to quit before exploding. Go me.
