Victor Goossens — Founder
In late 2000, then professional StarCraft player Victor “Nazgul” Goossens started “Team Liquid” as a small but promising Brood War clan. A few years later, he launched Teamliquid.net to serve as a homebase for early esports enthusiasts to stay connected, discover the scene and organize their own online competitions. During the website’s early growth, Goossens supported himself as a professional poker player. Since then, Goossens has helped transform Team Liquid into an international organization with 120+ athletes and talent across 15 titles, five continents and two, state-of-the-art training facilities. The organization has more prize winnings than any of its contemporaries. And, while competition is at its core, Liquid maintains 200+ full-time employees who help drive multiple business focuses — including marketing partnerships (with the likes of Alienware, Honda, HUYA, Marvel and Monster), content production (via production outfit 1UP Studios), talent management and technology (across internally developed projects such as Liquipedia and Liquid+). In addition to leading Team Liquid, Victor is an investor and board member for SunSpear Games and a board member for the CS:GO Louvre Agreement. He is also an investor and strategic advisor for AoE Creative, one of the industry’s most-respected design and marketing firms. Victor has been broadly featured in the media, with profiles and features across Reuters, Financial Times, The Economist, de Volkskrant, The Washington Post and CNBC. Moreover, Team Liquid has been the subject of short and long-form pieces on Netflix, The Daily Show, HBO, ESPN, and The Los Angeles Times, among many others. In 2020, Victor was elected into the Tempest Esports Business Awards Hall of Fame alongside Liquid co-CEO Steve Arhancet.
