I am too mature for my age. Every adult in my life repeated this to me until it became my inner dialogue. I became a validation seeking machine, the teacher’s (and later my manager’s) pet. I was exactly like you, wishing and wanting to have a normal childhood, without expectations, one where I could run and play in the park without getting sucked into the rat race. The competition didn’t just take away play, it took away my confidence and self-worth. Everything became an act of proving that I was good enough, you know the typical “good girl”. I am sure you can relate. I made it to IIIT and then into my dream internship at Microsoft, only to see burnout firsthand at 21. But I didn’t learn from my mistakes. Ah, do we ever? I felt so unsafe after a month of not cracking a placement, that I accepted the first offer I received. I worked hard to prove myself so I wasn’t fired for the second time, like I was fired from my dream internship. In between sending emails at 12:25am without eating dinner and working twice as hard during covid to keep my job, I lost everything, my health, career, relationships and whatever was left of my self-worth and confidence. This time I knew I cannot rush my way and bounce back. Life as I knew it was over. And maybe you are at that point too. But I didn’t stop, that’s one thing I always take pride in. In the last 3 years, I became a certified spiritual life coach, learned energy healing, developed my intuition, took those solo trips, finally loved myself, started The Desi Shame Slayer Podcast, and helped 100+ clients across the world feel free, loved and confident.
