About

I’ve been hacking on systems for as long as I can remember. Family legend has it that at age three, I was frequently found staring at fuse boxes just to "see how the electricity worked". Luckily, I survived that phase, but that curiosity with digging into the black box never left me. Today, I channel that curiosity into the Java Virtual Machine. I develop the Java Platform at Oracle alongside my work as a PhD Candidate at Uppsala University. My work sits right at the intersection of academic theory and production engineering. Instead of just tuning applications, I work across the entire stack—from designing new user-facing Java APIs down to engineering the C++ internals of the OpenJDK mainline. Mark-Scavenge: A new GC algorithm applied to the young generation in ZGC that leverages the fact that concurrent GC may defer object relocation. This algorithm achieves up to a 91% reduction in dead object copying and improved throughput and latency scores in SPECjbb2015. Accepted and presented at OOPSLA.
Memory Efficiency: Designed a compact metadata representation for ZGC, that strictly bounds overhead to 3.14%. This provides a hard guarantee that prevents pathological memory usage in edge cases.
Cache Optimization: Leveraged load barriers to optimize heap layout and CPU cache utilization, outperforming standard placement strategies.
