I truly believe that everything you do in life is practice. Steve Jobs said: "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards." Whether you believe we're living in a simulation or that life is a game, events happen for reasons beyond most of us. Looking back on 20+ years as an entrepreneur, I can connect a few of them. This About section is mostly used for boasting and posturing. So I think it's a nice pattern interrupt to talk about what actually led me here. On what drives me I have two children who give me purpose. I do fine when they're not around, but life just makes more sense when they are. When they're not, I find it in other things: adventures, building, learning, and leading. I've always been close to the forefront of technology. I was fortunate enough to make a lot of TV shows and documentaries about new technologies and emerging culture. That gave me the opportunity, and the necessity, to go deep on complex subjects fast and to talk directly with the entrepreneurs and engineers building them. It also taught me how to communicate at scale. Video is a powerful tool for that. And I've been among the first to try every new distribution channel and emerging technology. That path eventually led me toward building technology-enabled companies: from data science ventures to secure ticketing systems to an AI chatbot for pet owners. I've been an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember. I always created my own opportunities, mostly because I'm too eager to wait for the right moment, or until I'm ready. That trait sounds great, maybe. But it has meant I'm continuously in a state of discomfort, always aware of what I don't know. And in time, it becomes harder to ignore that I'm not as smart (or foolish) as I'd like to be. So I practice. Like monks who show up every day regardless. I tell myself: you are practicing, for something still ahead. I've always had a good sense of where I was heading. But I never expected it to lead me to where I am now.
