About

Yacine Mahdid is a passionate entrepreneur and researcher with keen interest in machine learning, biological learning, neuroscience and optimization of inefficient processes. Trained at McGill University in computational neuroscience (B.A.Sc.) with a specialization in machine learning, Yacine studied how consciousness could be detected from individual who are not able to move or speak using graph theory. Yacine Mahdid has numerous research paper on various topics (i.e. learning in schizophrenia, analyzing consciousness using phase/amplitude based graph, brain computer interface using electrical stimulation), but decided to drop out of his PhD in 2021 to focus on his scaling company Axya, which is structuring the outsourcing process in North America. Yacine Mahdid has a profound interest in using technology to solve issues in a pragmatic way and love to talk about them. If you want to discuss any of these topic: ⦾ Axya ⦾ Machine Learning ⦾ Consciousness ⦾ Entrepreneurship ⦾ Anything Franz Kafka or David Lynch related Don’t hesitate to send a DM or an email at mail@yacinemahdid.com 👋

  • Worked on detecting consciousness in individual with disorder of consciousness (i.e. Unresponsive wakefulness syndrome, minimally conscious) using electroencephalography and graph theory.
  • During this PhD I was the author of the following 8 papers:
  • ⦾ The zinc fingers of the small optic lobes calpain bind polyubiquitin
  • ⦾ Wearable Technology for Detecting Significant Moments in Individuals with Dementia
  • ⦾ Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on an Individual’s Ability to Learn to Control a Brain-Computer Interface
  • ⦾ Brain network motif topography may predict emergence from disorders of consciousness: a case series
  • ⦾ Assessing the Quality of Wearable EEG Systems Using Functional Connectivity
  • ⦾ A Feasibility Study on the Use of the Method of Loci for Improving Episodic Memory Performance in Schizophrenia and Non-clinical Subjects
  • ⦾ Brain network motifs are markers of loss and recovery of consciousness
  • ⦾ Differential classification of states of consciousness using envelope- and phase-based functional connectivity
  • Lots of fun and great learning. If you are working on any of these topic feel free to reach out, love to talk about them!

NSERC USRA Researcher

May 2017Sep 2017 · 4 mos · Montreal, Canada Area

  • In this project funded by a NSERC USRA grant, I developed an application that would produce music out of the emotional features contained within physiological signals. My work in this project included graphical user interface designing, development of feature extraction algorithms and building modules to interact with different API from third party libraries (Empatica E4 and Thought Technology TPS) as well as database interaction on android phones (Realm).

May 2016Sep 2016 · 4 mos · Montreal, Canada Area

  • In this project funded by a NSERC USRA grant, I worked with a protein linked to memory formation (i.e. Sol-A) to characterize its interaction with another protein (i.e. Ubiquitin). My role was to first mutate the original protein isolated from Aplysia to truncate its Zinc Finger domain and then do a series of binding assay with varying amount of Ubiquitin to characterize which domains were of critical importance.
