Weston Moyer — Co-Founder
I want to make venture capital more impactful. VC is a key driver of meaningful innovation for our society. Helping startups scale should be a group effort — not just the operators and lead investors. My motivation at MVP is to push the rest of a startup's cap table to deliver tangible help to their portfolio companies. We are building MVP to be, per dollar, the Most Valuable Partner on your cap table. There is a big inefficiency in venture. 95% of a CEO's attention is focused on the lead. The rest of the round is then slapped together. This had led to a lot of free rides from co-investors. These co-investors mean well, but they don't bring anything to the table. This is why we exist. We are working to change that. I first learned about venture capital when I was 25. I treated my career like a startup since then - bootstrapping through an unpaid VC internship, earning deal reps over the years, and now founding my own firm with partners focused on building the best collaborative firm in the market. I found my personality-job fit in venture and love having a positive impact on companies that are helping to make the world a better place. Inefficiency frustrates me. It doesn't matter where I see it, I'm always thinking and tinkering to find ways of doing things better, faster, or more cost-effectively. My mom went from stay-at-home-mom to doctor. She started med school at 40 with four rambunctious boys at home and ended up valedictorian. She's been a doctor for two decades now. She has taught me that it's never too late to chase your dreams. In high school, halfway through my senior year football season, I made a highlight film of my best plays. I made it just to keep the memories. Unbeknownst to me, my dad made copies and sent them to universities around the country. This included Yale, where I ultimately enrolled and played football throughout my time. I met my wife there. I got my start in VC at a Yale alumni venture fund. Without my dad, my life would look a lot different. Rest in peace, pops. Always go the extra mile. I learned early that if you commit to doing something for someone — be it a boss, a startup founder, or an LP — always do it better and faster than they are expecting. Doing this consistently is the best way to make yourself indispensable, build trust, and advance your career. I was the lead singer of a rock band in college. We produced ~15 tracks and played shows at parties. I wrote my best song for a girl in college to convince her to date me. We had our first dance to it at our wedding many years later.
