Harshita Sinha — Consultant
I am a PhD researcher at the London School of Economics, working at the intersection of migration, informality, and the changing landscape of digital welfare in India. My research explores how internal migrant workers navigate welfare systems, negotiate belonging in urban informal economies, and adapt to increasingly digitalised public infrastructures. Driven by the belief that research should be accessible and inform practice. My work focuses on generating insights grounded in lived realities and making them actionable for those shaping policy and practice. I’m particularly interested in bridging the gap between evidence and implementation to support more equitable and human-centred welfare. Over the past seven years, I’ve worked across academic institutes, policy think tanks, and civil society spaces to advance research and action on informality, migration, and social protection. These experiences have deepened my commitment to translating research into frameworks that inform real-world decisions. I founded Voices of Informality as a platform to elevate lived experiences through narrative-driven research, transforming qualitative evidence into engagement tools for practitioners, policymakers, and the public. As a Tutor and Lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate students on migration, social policy, and research methodology, I remain passionate about mentoring the next generation of scholar-practitioners. Focus Areas: Migration & informality | Migration governance | Digital welfare systems | Climate-Mobilities | Labour & social protection | Research-to-policy translation | Accessible knowledge production Open to: Collaborations, consulting, fellowships, or advisory roles that connect research, policy, and action, particularly in inclusive development, digital governance, and social innovation.
