Mark Atkinson — CEO
It is fascinating how a 25-year career can bring you right back to your roots. Despite my recent focus as a Strategic Data Leader and Principal Architect, I recently realized that first and foremost, I am a software engineer. My core passion has always been balancing the complex, competing forces that dictate the composition of a software system. DATA STRATEGY & AUTOMATED GOVERNANCE Currently, my primary focus is on information architecture and building analytical data platforms that treat data as a high-value product. I lead the execution of continuous, automated data governance—shifting from manual reviews to "always-on" policy-as-code. By engineering immutable audit trails and visible trust indicators, we remove the burden of tedious data management and empower data scientists to focus purely on extracting insights. THE PARADIGM SHIFT: AGENTIC AI & DOMAIN-DRIVEN DESIGN We are currently experiencing one of the most exciting shifts of my career: the rise of agentic software development and the move toward "API-Only" integrations. The Abstraction Realized: Back in 2001, I believed tools like UML would allow us to specify systems at a high level while others handled the implementation. That was a pipe dream at the time. Today, using natural language and agentic tools, that higher-level abstraction is finally becoming a reality. Ubiquitous Language: I am a staunch advocate of Domain-Driven Design. Eric Evans’ principle that the Ubiquitous Language should pervade every medium of communication—including the software itself—is now being literally applied through these new abstraction layers. The API-Only Future: With the rapid evolution of chatbot interfaces and MCP integration, the need for bespoke GUIs is waning, shifting our focus squarely to robust, API-only system compositions. ENGINEERING FOUNDATION & CULTURE My leadership approach is deeply informed by my engineering roots. I established my first Agile-oriented development team in 2001, driving the early adoption of iterative delivery, test-driven development, and pair programming. Today, I continue to champion collaborative environments, coaching teams on architectural patterns and presenting data strategies to thousands of engineers globally. I am driven by curiosity and the desire to build systems that matter. I am always eager to connect and explore new opportunities to innovate, whether we are discussing data mesh, system composition, or the agentic future of engineering.
