About

After 13 years across journalism, sport, brand, and tech I finally feel like I’ve earned my title as a storyteller. I've written match reports, edited magazines, led global content teams, and built content functions from scratch. I've always believed that great content can’t just inform, it needs to connect. The corporate world disagrees, which is why it keeps producing content that sounds like it was written by a committee of bored robots. I've spent most of my career fighting that tendency. With varying degrees of success. I work best where authenticity matters, impact is measurable, and humour is allowed to exist without a permission slip. What I actually do: - Write things people want to read. From long-form brand stories to the kind of LinkedIn posts people screenshot and send to each other. - Build content teams that do good work — hire, train, lead, and occasionally therapise writers who've been broken by bad briefs and worse managers. - Make founders and leaders sound like humans — credible, relatable, without drifting into TED Talk territory. - Fix what's broken: if your content isn't landing the way it should, I'll tell you why— honestly; even if it's uncomfortable. I mentor writers and help brands tell their stories on TopMate — 4.9 rating, Top 5% 👉 topmate.io/govindankishwar

Zuper

Director of Content Marketing

Jan 2025Oct 2025 · 9 mos · Chennai · Hybrid

  • Took on the challenge of making field service management software sound interesting. Spoiler: we managed it. Owned everything content — brand, performance, product, across every channel. Built and managed a team across copy, design, and video. Wrote ads that made people in hard hats click. Introduced AI tools to scale output without scaling the headcount, which made exactly one person in finance happy. Left with the content function in better shape than I found it. Which is all you can really ask for.

Full-time Dad

Sep 2023Present · 2 yrs 8 mos · Delhi, India · On-site

  • Promoted myself to this role without a formal interview process. No one else applied.
  • Responsibilities include school runs, dog walks, nap time negotiations, and managing a toddler who has stronger opinions about his lunch than most CEOs I've worked with. Also responsible for snack procurement, emotional support, and maintaining the fiction that vegetables are delicious.
  • Key achievement: kept a small human alive and occasionally happy. No performance review required. No performance review survived.
  • Skills acquired: patience (still in beta), emotional regulation (his, not mine), and the ability to function on three hours of sleep — a skill that, it turns out, transfers remarkably well to content leadership.

  • I was the guy behind those messages asking you to buy or sell your car. The blogs about HSRP number plates you never knew you needed. The CTAs on the app you couldn't help clicking. Social media posts. All of it — that was my team. Built a content team from scratch. Hired and managed writers and editors, moved all production in-house, wrote the style guide that finally settled the serial comma debate, and led UI content across app, mobile site, and desktop. Also introduced processes that actually improved turnaround times. Anyone who has worked in content knows this is less a professional achievement and more a minor miracle.

Abpp papers

Social Media Consultant

May 2022Oct 2022 · 5 mos · Delhi, India

  • ABPP Papers needed someone to make sustainable paper sound exciting on LinkedIn. Devised the #BreakUpWithPlastic campaign in July 2022 and somehow made people care about packaging the way they care about their morning coffee. B2B content and creative direction for an audience that needed convincing that paper could have a personality.
  • Turns out it can.

  • B2C Instagram content for a brand that needed personality as much as product. Delivered both. No complaints.

Lead, Content

  • Joined as Lead Editor. Got promoted to Lead Content. Ended up overseeing everything, as these things tend to go when you're the person who can't stop fixing things that aren't technically your problem.
  • Led writers and videographers producing research-led wellbeing content. Planned calendars, oversaw shoots, produced the annual survey report, and kept the content machine running without it catching fire. Mostly.

Zomato

Senior Editor

Mar 2018Nov 2020 · 2 yrs 8 mos · Gurgaon, Haryana, India

  • First editor on the SneakPeek team. Helped build the product from zero. It became the fastest-growing vertical at Zomato (at the time), which I mention casually but am actually quite proud of. Led writers across Delhi, Dubai, Australia, Indonesia, and Beirut. Launched in eight countries. Worked with 200+ restaurant partners. Did everything except the cooking, which everyone agreed was for the best.
  • Then COVID happened.

Copy Editor

  • Ran the production of an entire magazine with a small team. Subbed stories, commissioned freelancers, proofed pages, worked with designers, and wrote about football and motorsport.
  • Also where I developed the midnight ritual — print the pages, mark corrections in pen, make sense of your own scribbles the next morning, and hope past-you had been coherent. Grew the digital presence significantly. Past-me was usually coherent enough.
  • Still buddies with the Managing Editor at the time. Fun guy after a few drinks.

Consultant

Nov 2016Jan 2017 · 2 mos · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

  • Brought the print journalism discipline to a digital team. This mostly meant being the person who caught errors before they went live and occasionally reminded everyone that a website could have a point of view.
  • Short stint. Left having made the content better than I found it. Same policy I apply everywhere.

Hindustan times

Sports Journalist

Apr 2014Oct 2016 · 2 yrs 6 mos · Greater Delhi Area

  • Started as an intern. Stayed because they kept giving me football to write about.
  • Covered football, Formula One, and everything in between. Including the occasional cricket story, unfortunately. Wrote, subbed, designed pages, suggested layouts, and learned what a real deadline feels like — the kind where a newspaper actually has to print and there is no "we'll fix it tomorrow." We made corrections with seconds to go. That's where the eye for detail was built. Not in a course. Not in a workshop. Just the very real consequence of getting it wrong in ink.

  • The Editor at the time thought I was high (I wasn't) when he first met me. Said I had a decent head on my shoulders after interviewing me but needed a haircut (didn't get one). Got paid enough to pay for my commute and beverages.
