Dr Dieter Veldsman — CEO
Most HR decisions that shape people's lives — who gets hired, who gets developed, who gets let go — are still made on instinct and assumption rather than evidence. That bothers me. It has bothered me for 18 years. I started my career as an organisational psychologist because I believed the science of human behaviour could make work better — more humane, more effective, more honest. I spent years as a CHRO putting that belief to the test in the boardroom, across organisations in EMEA, APAC, and LATAM. I learned what the research gets right. And I learned where it fails to translate into Monday morning decisions. Today, I lead the advisory, insights, and science lab at AIHR, where I work to close the gap between what HR knows and what HR does. I study how organisations work, how people thrive, and why so many well-intentioned people strategies still fall short. My work sits at the intersection of three things I care deeply about: → The science of people — organisational psychology, behavioural research, and what the evidence actually says about talent, leadership, and work design. → The practice of HR — having sat in executive roles and advised organisations globally, I understand the pressure, the politics, and the real constraints HR leaders operate under. → The future of the profession — HR is at an inflection point. The organisations that will win are those that build HR functions grounded in data, human insight, and the courage to challenge convention. I write and speak about these ideas because I believe the HR profession deserves a higher standard of evidence — and because I've seen what happens when organisations get this right. What I'm working on: → Research into how HR functions need to evolve for the next decade of work → Developing science-backed frameworks that HR leaders can actually use → Advancing the conversation about evidence-based people practice globally I'd love to connect if you: Lead HR in a complex, global organisation and are wrestling with the gap between strategy and execution Are curious about the science behind people decisions and want to have a more rigorous conversation Are building the future of HR and want to challenge assumptions together Reach out directly — I read every message.
