About

With over 17 years of experience in IT within the NHS, including a decade specialising in Cyber Security Testing, I bring a wealth of expertise to safeguarding systems and data. My professional journey has been shaped by a commitment to resilience and adaptability, ensuring that security measures remain robust in an ever-evolving threat landscape. In recent years, I have broadened my skillset to include physical security, training as a locksmith and undertaking specialist courses in Covert Access and Physical Penetration Testing. This unique combination of cyber and physical security knowledge enables me to provide comprehensive security audits and penetration testing services, addressing vulnerabilities across both digital and physical domains. I am passionate about fostering a holistic approach to security, blending technical expertise with practical solutions to help organisations stay one step ahead of potential threats. I also designed and manufacture the FIT'D secure door bypass units. See https://redsec.uk/FITD for more details.

  • Operating across Hinckley and nearby areas, I offer:
  • Non-destructive entry
  • Out of hours callouts (evenings/weekends) with no call-out fees
  • Lock repairs, replacements, and practical security upgrades
  • More than just a locksmith service, RedSec is a platform for developing deeper knowledge in physical assurance feeding into broader professional services over time. I’m committed to doing the job properly, charging fairly, and helping people feel secure in their homes and businesses.

Offensive Cyber Security Engineer

Promoted

Dec 2018Present · 7 yrs 4 mos

  • In my role as Offensive Cyber Security Engineer, I am fully funded by the services we deliver to other NHS trusts, public sector organisations, and private clients. They pay for our cybersecurity assurance, covering penetration testing, physical security assessments, and phishing simulations. Internally, I support our ISO 27001 compliance efforts as part of the team, alongside technical input on investigations and vulnerability reviews. I use tools like NMAP, Nessus, Burp Suite Pro, Wireshark, and Aircrack-ng to assess networks, web apps, Wi-Fi, and physical controls. In short, I provide security services both internally and externally, all funded by our client base.

Cyber Security Technician (Split Role)

May 2014Dec 2018 · 4 yrs 7 mos

  • The Cyber Security manager needed someone to assist with the internal and external vulnerability scanning and testing work and managed this role alongside my main role as Senior Systems Technician. I was mainly tasked with carrying out the initial enumeration stages of testing both internally and for external clients (public & private sector). The work carried out involved the enumeration of internal LANS, public facing endpoints, web applications, Wi-Fi auditing and the testing of new hardware using off the shelf tools and utilities.

Senior Systems Technician (Split Role)

Promoted

Apr 2012Dec 2018 · 6 yrs 8 mos

  • This is a diverse role which I did alongside my other role as a Cyber Security Technician. I worked as part of a small team with three other team members. We provided premium one stop IT services to external clients who require a more one to one approach. The users we supported had various specialist requirements and at times worked from all over the world. We dealt with all levels of their IT requirements from 1st to 3rd line. The work ranged from managing large scale national roll-out and migration projects down to ordering and installing a basic printer.
  • This role involved extensive use of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Imaging technologies, remote support tools, Microsoft Office, MDM solutions, drive encryption, anti-virus, Windows XP/7/10, Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, Symantec Backup exec, Cisco VPN plus other systems as and when required. This role called for some diverse and flexible working practices in order to provide a service which went above and beyond the normal support services.
  • The role also included being part of an on call rota for out of hours support. All work was carried out to SLA. At quiet times, as a team we'd get asked to be involved in internal projects or one-off internal roll-outs as and when required.

Service Desk Analyst (Part Time)

Jul 2011Apr 2012 · 9 mos

  • In this role I formed part of a large team to act as the first point of contact for all service users. It involved having a 10 minute window in which to analyse the service users issue, log it with accuracy and either resolve it within the 10 minute provided in the SLA or escalate to the 2nd line team. I was required to maintain a high level of customer service.

National IT Support Officer (Part Time)

Jul 2011Apr 2012 · 9 mos

  • This role was initially on secondment from my permanent role as Service Desk Analyst. Once the organisation was in a position to make it a permeant role the position of Senior Systems Technician was created. Many of the same roles and responsibilities remained the same. During the transition
  • from secondment to permanent I was required to split my time between my Service Desk Analyst role and my National IT Support Officer role.
