About

I'm passionate about technology and have worked for over 20 years in the geospatial industry, gaining broad experience in innovative R&D throughout my career. My current focus is on delivering innovation in geospatial and digital reality, working with the latest advances in disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5D visualization. As CTO of Hexagon AB I'm responsible for driving innovation and development of our autonomous technology vision. I'm also focused on democratizing technology - making complex solutions and workflows available to a broader set of sectors and users. I'm proud to lead a team that develops products that support digital transformation, enabling new opportunities and efficiencies for a broad number of sectors. Among the groundbreaking technology we've developed so far is the Leica BLK series, which includes the award-winning Leica BLK360 imaging laser scanner and the Leica BLK2GO handheld device combining visual and LiDAR SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) to enable users to move and capture reality wherever they want. I have a Master's of Science in Geodesy from the University of Bonn in Germany and a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), where I was awarded the ETH Medal for my thesis.

Responsible for driving innovation and development of Hexagon AB's autonomous technology vision - including technology, innovation and product development.
In supporting our divisional R&Ds, we established a centralized R&D group called the Hexagon Innovation Hub. Besides a strong footprint in artificial intelligence (AI) and maintaining our technology leadership in photonics, LiDAR, solid state sensors, imaging advanced simulation technologies and many others, there are other key areas of innovation that we are focusing on within the Innovation Hub which underpin all of the development we do. The main one is our XALT platform which is focused on connectivity, digital workflows and the internet of things (IoT). This allows us to connect our offerings to a single Hexagon technology domain and empowers our customers with an autonomous future.

Responsible for technology, innovation and product development for all Hexagon Geosystems with R&D teams focused on disruptive technologies in Heerbrugg and Zurich, Switzerland. Our mission is to ensure Hexagon brings innovative and disruptive products to market that lead the world in digital reality technologies and that consumers wanted to use. A great example of this is the Leica BLK360 imaging laser scanner.
Since its launch, the BLK360 has enabled exciting new use cases of 3D laser scanning technology and has been recognized globally for its innovation with various accolades including as a CES Innovation Award honoree, Red Dot Design Award and the PRISM Award in Photonics. To date this reality capture solution has been used by pioneering organizations including the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to document the architect’s iconic studio and residential complex in Arizona, as well as Lucasfilm / Industrial Light & Magic for productions including Star Wars.
As part of developing market-leading products, my team is also responsible for the industrial design for all Hexagon Geosystems products and the software UI/UX style, look and feel. We also champion the best practice in agile product development. Other key elements of my role include recruiting the best technology talent in the market as well as researching and identifying adjacent technology and software M&A targets to support and accelerate our development and business.
