Mike Torres — CEO
Tech executive with almost 30 years experience leading cross-functional, global organizations (~1500 employees) and early-stage startups and teams. A career grounded in delivering software, services, and devices to billions of people around the world, with a focus on planetary-scale products. My approach to leadership is rooted in the same philosophy I apply on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu mats and under the barbell: master the fundamentals, eliminate the noise, and pursue continuous, rep-by-rep improvement. Whether I'm helping define the future of browsing, scaling a business unit, or raising two kids here in Seattle, I operate on the principles of deep work, intentionality, and sustainable high performance. I currently lead product for Google Chrome, the world’s most popular web browser. Previously I led the Kindle product & tech organization at Amazon. We embraced our mission to inspire the world to read more, and to get more out of reading everyday. Prior to joining Amazon in 2013, I held leadership roles at Microsoft over 10.5 years driving consumer software & services in use by hundreds of millions of people around the world, including OneDrive and media apps for Windows. I started my career leading product, design, and engineering teams at startups from 1997 through 2002 including as Co-Founder and VP of Product & Engineering at Jump.com, a web-based calendar app acquired by Microsoft. In my personal life, I'm a lifelong martial artist and a Black Belt/Instructor in several systems. I'm currently training and teaching as a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Drew Vogel, and co-own Framework BJJ Seattle. We teach jiu-jitsu for sport and self-defense, with and without the gi, and in classic and modern styles. Additionally and finally, I'm a Senior Instructor Emeritus at StrongFirst under Pavel Tsatsouline in kettlebell, bodyweight, and barbell training. I spent a decade teaching the "skill of strength" on weekends to special operators, first responders, law enforcement, martial artists, personal trainers, physical therapists, and strength enthusiasts.
