I was helping a GCC head run an innovation program when the pattern finally clicked: companies don’t fail for lack of ideas - they stall because vision, talk, and day-to-day action drift apart. I called it the Think-Say-Do gap, and once I spotted it, I saw it everywhere: in my own leadership style, in past ventures, even in how I chased a “healthier, wiser” New-Year-self or my parenting style. Misalignment, I realised, is a silent (and very expensive) killer. Today I co-run Align By Design. Two senior partners, no junior bench. We work with CEOs through points of inflection (e.g. PE-funded high growth, preparing for an IPO, M&A) and push at least one business-visible metric - decision speed, release cadence, or regrettable attrition - hard enough that the board notices inside a quarter. Not impacted by the Innovator’s Dilemma of Big consulting companies, with their entrenched assets and bloated teams, allows us to reimagine the way we operate. Lean, AI-driven tools do the analyst grunt work; clients pay for insight, not overhead. ⸻ Selected results • Shortened decision-making loops from weeks to days for a scale-up. • Helped a post-crisis fintech steady morale • Enabled an enterprise-wide innovation program for a 1,200-person GCC that won multiple Best Place to Innovate awards and established a repeatable pipeline from idea pitch to prototype.
