• Gram Samriddhi Foundation (GSF) has been working very closely with farmers in West Bengal. It is training and helping farmers towards holistic development of villages. The development model is called “Go Adharit Gram Vikas” (Cow based village development), following which Farmer families becomes atmanirbhar (self sufficient) and hence can significantly reduce their expenses on farming, healthcare, daily need products and cooking fuel. Emphasis is also on integrated natural/organic agroforestry, animal care, heirloom seeds and rainwater harvesting ponds. The goal is to rebuild the community and help them collaborate with each other leading to the creation of Farmers Producers Organisations/Companies (FPO/FPC). This will ensure a respectable and sustainable livelihoods for farmers such that next generation don’t give up farming for jobs.
• Seeing the effectiveness and multi pronged benefits of this model for farmers, earth, people and all life forms, Urveera has partnered with GSF to help farmers of Jharkhand.
• We have started discussions with farmers of Chakulia block (total 350 villages), village after village gathering insights about their current farming practices, health conditions, human-elephant conflict, interest of youth in farming, penetration of consumerism, etc. and hence realising it together that we all are trapped in a vicious circle leading towards an impending catastrophe. With this realisation, farmers are showing eagerness to learn alternative approach to turn this around towards a regenerative development for all.
