About

I have a diverse background, all the way from Electrical Engineering (semiconductors, control systems, circuit design, lab research) to Software (C++ embedded systems through to JavaScript/React UX). I love jumping around and learning new things. Most recently, I've switched from full-stack software leadership (Director @ Meta) to flight software for supersonic planes (Engineer @ Astro Mechanica) for a fresh challenge. In my spare time, I build and race cars with a team in the 24 Hours of Lemons amateur endurance racing league. I love having an outlet to hands-on build electronics, software, and mechanical things. For example, I've recently designed and built an NXP ARM CPU-based data acquisition and PID controller board for a compressor-based driver cooling system, involving mixed signal circuit design, signal processing, CAN telemetry, and embedded C++.

  • Engineering Director in the Meta Ads organization, leading development of advertiser-facing products responsible for the majority of Meta revenue. Currently managing a team of ~220 engineers responsible for the full stack of the Ads API, Ads Manager web/mobile, and Small Business Advertising products: from the C++ database and data services backend, through the serverside APIs, to the JavaScript/iOS/Android end-user interfaces. Collectively, these products serve the full range of advertisers, from small businesses through to large brands and ad agencies. Personally focused on building a strong engineering culture, defining product strategy, guiding execution hands-on, building collaborations across an organization of thousands of engineers, and holding teams accountable to a high quality bar.
  • Key projects:
  • Building an AI business agent into Ads Manager using an agentic framework with specialized agents for support/performance use cases, RAG, latency optimization, and observability.
  • Pivoting the external customer Ads API strategy to reverse a years-long decline in revenue share, involving building deep relationships with specific customers across several segments.
  • Improving Ads Manager web uptime from 98% to 99.9% over 5 years, including technical and cultural changes.
  • Modernization of Ads Manager web frontend infrastructure to Relay/GraphQL, a 5+ year project impacting development across 1000 engineers.

Spool

Software Engineer

Feb 2011Aug 2012 · 1 yr 6 mos · San Francisco Bay Area

  • First engineering hire at a startup of 7 people, doing full-stack web and mobile development. Spool was a mobile app that let you record video or save articles from anywhere on the internet to your phone - and watch it anytime (even offline). This was a significant enabler for video consumption on mobile, given limited bandwidth and spotty coverage of 3G networks at the time. Powered by virtualized crawlers running on AWS (patent: US 9298827). Primarily worked in C/C++, JavaScript, Ruby, and Android Java.
  • Acquired by Facebook in 2012.

  • Engineer working on the Firefox browser platform, primarily working in C++ and JavaScript. Worked on the Firefox networking stack and UI where I contributed to improved privacy and third-party tracking controls, and collaborated with Google, Apple, and Opera to achieve consistent cookie handling behavior across browsers. Also built js-ctypes for Firefox, a platform-internal library for calling C/C++ functions from JavaScript at runtime without having to write or compile any C/C++ glue code.
