About

Production. Project management. Product development. Marketing. Branded content + strategy. Business development. These are the various hats I've worn over the span of my career in both Indian as well as international markets. What’s more is that I managed to connect the dots between these roles to craft a career at the intersection of Content, Technology and Business. With an education in content production, I managed to gain international exposure early in my career across production houses in London. I brought these learnings back with me to help setup content production at Culture Machine in 2013, as their first employee. I then went on to expand my skills to work closely with the tech teams to automate video production, as the creative lead of Video Machine, Culture Machine's proprietary software. My next pivot, having setup this team, was to help scale the entire bit by helping bring brands on board, and in turn revenue. Since 2020, as COO of Weirdass Comedy, I have been leading business across the company’s live, brand, and long-form IP development verticals. I’m currently spearheading the creation of our own comedy platform with a PVOD as well as a web3.0/tokenomics play. Some of the other hats I happen to wear are – Fire Fighter, Consigliere, Caller of “Iceberg – 6 months ahead!” and “Let’s prepare for the Metaverse!” An entire section of my wardrobe is dedicated to hats. And I find that there’s room for more.

COO

Jan 2020Present · 6 yrs 3 mos · Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

  • As COO, along with overseeing the P&L, I was tasked with unlocking the next phase of growth for Weirdass, expanding it from a live events agency to a new age media company. I helped navigate the company through the pandemic, experimenting with newer content formats for both production and delivery. These experiments are helping us steer towards being a content company of the future with a strong web3.0 play. My key responsibilities include:
  • Building relationships with key personnel across major OTT networks and studios to position us as a full-fledged content development unit and production house, specializing in comedy
  • Working on end-to-end IP creation from concept development, putting together remote writer’s rooms, pitching to platforms and co-production partners, negotiating commercial terms, to overseeing end-to-end execution across all stages of production
  • Identify, spearhead and monetize new business opportunities within the content/creator ecosystem including PVOD/pay-per-view, subscription and web3/tokenomics models
  • Key Contribution:
  • Led and negotiated the company’s first co-production deal with Applause Entertainment for a bi-lingual English/Hindi fiction comedy series, developed and line-produced in-house.
  • Executive Produced “Vir Das: Outside In – A Lockdown Comedy Special” – a product of pivoting completely to virtual zoom shows through the 2020 lockdown. Successfully piloted it’s marketing and distribution as our first pay-per-view product on our website, helping raise close to 40 lakhs for charity. The special was later licensed to Netflix, where it now rests.
  • Actively spearheading the company’s next pivot within the creator economy by creating our own platform for original comedy content. Currently working on the product roadmap, and onboarding consultants across tech, blockchain, marketing and finance to build out a business model from both a web2.0 subscription lens, as well as web3.0 tokenomics one.
