About

I'm a Telecom Protocol Engineer specialising in Physical Layer (L1) and Layer 2 (MAC/RLC/PDCP) protocol stack development across LTE, WCDMA, and 5G NR architectures. My most significant experience was at MediaTek — one of the world's leading semiconductor companies — where I worked on LTE and WCDMA L1/L2 modem development across multiple chipset generations. In two years, I resolved 100+ critical L1/L2 defects including system crashes, call drops, and HARQ failures that directly impacted modem stability for global operator deployments. I led L1 Driver porting to a multi-core platform with zero regression defects, conducted KPI analysis across BLER, throughput, and HARQ success rates, and contributed to 5G NR NSA readiness through 3GPP Rel-15/16/17 feasibility studies. This work was recognised with the Rising Star Award for Telecom (April 2022). Before MediaTek, I completed an 11-month project at ISRO ISTRAC, Bengaluru, designing RF Receiver components for L Band satellite applications — including LNA, band-pass filters, and Wilkinson power dividers — using Advanced Design System (ADS). I hold an M.Tech in Communication Engineering from VIT (CGPA: 8.74), with specialisation in wireless communication, advanced DSP, and RF systems. From 2023 to 2025, I took a deliberate career break to deepen my technical foundation. During this time I completed advanced training in Protocol Testing for Embedded Systems, studied the 5G NR air interface in depth (FR1/FR2, BWP, DRX, beamforming, network slicing, 3GPP Release 18 AI/ML RAN integration), and built hands-on skills in Python and Machine Learning for wireless KPI analysis and anomaly detection. I also actively use AI tools — ChatGPT and Claude — for technical research, 3GPP spec interpretation, and root-cause analysis workflows. I am now actively seeking roles in 5G NR / LTE L1–L2 protocol stack development, modem engineering, or RAN protocol engineering where I can bring my debugging depth, 3GPP specification knowledge, and cross-layer understanding to a next-generation product team. 📧 bhoomikarastogi@gmail.com | 📞 +91 73958 94690

Telecom Protocol Engineer — L1 & L2

Jun 2021Jul 2023 · 2 yrs 1 mo · Bengaluru, Karnataka, India · On-site

  • Worked on Physical Layer (L1) and Layer 2 (MAC/RLC/PDCP) protocol stack development for LTE and WCDMA across multiple MediaTek chipset generations — one of the world's leading multi-RAT modem platforms.
  • 🏆 Rising Star Award — Telecom (April 2022), awarded for technical excellence in L1 development and significant improvement in modem system stability across global operator deployments.
  • Key contributions:
  • Debugged and resolved 100+ critical L1/L2 defects — system crashes, call drops, and HARQ failures — across LTE and WCDMA stacks for multi-generation MTK chipsets; average resolution time ~3 days
  • Drove >20% reduction in call drop rates by identifying root-cause L1–L2 interface issues during global Inter-Operability Tests (IOT) and Field Tests
  • Conducted KPI analysis across BLER, throughput, and HARQ success rates using ELT and Core Tracer — contributing to ~15% BLER reduction on key chipsets
  • Led porting of LTE L1 Driver and WCDMA L1 Driver to a multi-core processor platform — zero regression defects post-porting across all MTK modem generations
  • Conducted feasibility studies on 3GPP Release 15/16/17 specifications (CSI-RS, SRS, CQI/PMI/RI) to prepare LTE Layer 2/3 stack for 5G NR Non-Standalone (NSA) integration
  • Collaborated with cross-functional Protocol Stack teams on MAC Scheduling, RACH, HARQ, DRX configuration, and BWP allocation across multiple LTE and 5G NR chipset programmes
  • Served as primary point of contact for 100+ customer-reported issues from global operators, resolving escalations within agreed SLAs
