Engineering Manager

  • After 6 years in Berlin I decided to move back to Barcelona where I joined Glovo as an Engineering Manager. I joined the Content and Partners cluster to manage a newly formed team that would provide tools to our partners to manage their business with Glovo. This is, to this day, a critical piece of software for the scalability of Glovo’s business, enabling partners for function without the need for customer support.
  • The team has Frontend and Backend engineers and we collaborate constantly with our product manager to deliver solutions to our partners with an MVP mindset
  • Working closely with my team and other teams collaborating on the same monorepo to improve the health of our CI/CD pipeline and making sure a high bar of quality is kept by squashing bugs and flaky tests are dealt with quickly. We also review our DORA metrics regularly to spot improvements in our systems and processes
  • Ran team health check surveys to boost engagement and act on signals and trends early.
  • I participated in workgroups to experiment with different ways to get our engineers more engaged with learning opportunities.
  • Presented a talk about working in multi cultural teams based on the “The culture map” book by Erin Meyer
  • Participated in multiple mentorship programs to boost growth of new leaders at Glovo and in our LeaderShe program that focuses in empowering women to grow their skillset and influence

  • After the departure of my engineering director I asked the CTO for a chance manage our Platform teams (my previous teams plus infrastructure, and Data). Throughout my time as a director my department grew to be around 40 people, where we continued to support business needs and modernize our platform towards our architecture vision. Managing both managers and engineers, providing mentoring, guidance, aligning on goals and progress on them.
  • Setting and driving department goals using OKRs and handling priorities and alignment with peers to ensure the platform would deliver the needs for our product roadmap

  • After successfully managing product teams I moved to manage teams overviewing the core services of the platform. One of the teams had 5 backend engineers and was in charge of the backbone of the product APIs, handling complex business logic like all the flow to create reservations, integrations with external providers (Google Maps), communication (mailing, sms). The other team was built to modernize our invoicing system which was a heavily manual process revolving around multiple spreadsheets and BI tools
  • Around this time Quandoo began its journey to move to a more modern architecture. Migrating from EC2 instances managed by a lot of custom bash scripts and a monolithic database serving different deployment units to essentially KAPPA architecture with services running in Kubernetes and Kafka playing the role of central storage. My teams were in charge of building the tooling to enable other teams to start decoupling their domains from our monolith. One of my teams was in charge of enabling others to decouple their domains from the monolith, by creating a service that would translate data in real time from the database to Kafka.

Team Lead

Jan 2017Feb 2021 · 4 yrs 1 mo

  • Led a team of 4 engineers (myself included) to develop a new version of the internal systems for the operators at Quandoo.
  • The application was built with AngularJS and Java/Spring on the backend
  • Led a team of 3 frontend and 3 backend engineers to tool we provided the restaurants to manage their integration with Quandoo. This was a rewrite of a legacy application into a more modern stack that would align to the rest of the company products. The frontend was done with AngularJS and the backend with Java and Spring. Closely collaborating with the product manager to assess new features and plan the work together with the team
  • After successfully leading the 2 previous projects I started to have more responsibility as a backend tech lead, overviewing development in multiple services (from REST APIs to internal services that handled mailing, sms, and asynchronous tasks)
