About

Please do NOT send me investment proposals or pitch decks. Or CVs looking for jobs. I would love to hear from you if you are a scientist with a dream, philanthropist committed to Indian progress or a govt agency looking to set up a PPP company to address a social challenge through technology. Overview: Career Investment Banker working across Indian public and private markets. Today, through philanthropy and personal engagement, I am closely involved in five social impact areas - extending healthspan and preventive medicine - battling climate change by increasing resilience - energy & transport transition, - waste2wealth and green mfg - development/ diffusion of frontier technologies. My primary area of work is the creation of an end to end social impact ecosystem for mega startups Past: 1990-2000 In the past, I have been passionate about building institutions of national importance. I spent three years helping set up and operationalise the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. I was closely involved in the formation of other institutionalised entities such as BSNL, SEBI and SIDBI. Member of the disinvestment commission and served as operating agency lead for BIFR and revitalisation attempts for large companies that were disrupted in the shift from a “controlled” socialist to a “free market” capitalist economy. Past: 2000-2020 Two decades in the startup ecosystem on the private equity and capital markets funding side. Helped evolve the policy framework for private equity, SME listing, incubators and startup promotion. Catalysed the creation and institutional strengthening for the intermediation, merchant banking and alternate investment platforms focused on startup’s. Continuing: 1997 to date I am an active volunteer in the IIT Alumni movement for the last twenty-five years. Non partisan, secular and non-political global organisations such as the IIT Alumni Council can play a critical role in national development. Since early 2020, I have been an active volunteer of the Indian fight against covid. I would love to interact with scientists and academicians addressing problem statements in the five areas mentioned above. Future Focus From April 2023 onward, I work as the Convenor of the IIT Alumni Social Fund, a domestic social fund registered with and regulated by SEBI under the AIF Regulations 2012. This is India’s largest social impact fund with a target corpus of Rs 21,000 crores.
