• The fellowship provided a foundational understanding of the practical aspects of public policy in India through engaging sessions on Behavioral Economics, Policy Advocacy and Writing, Parliamentary procedures, and networking interactions with Members of Parliament, prominent journalists, and policy experts.
• The fellowship culminated in a month-long capstone project conducted in a team of four. We undertook a landscape analysis of lateral entry into the Indian bureaucracy for the Office of Bijyant Jay Panda, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha).
• ▪️ The study offered a primary analysis of the legal and historical dimensions of lateral entry in India and outlined the intended benefits of this policy shift.
• ▪️ We engaged with multiple stakeholders—including serving senior bureaucrats, leading policy academicians, former government officials, and executives from Program Management Units (PMUs)—to gather first-hand insights.

• As part of my capstone for Citizens for Public Leadership, I collaborated with Udayan Care, a leading non-profit supporting care leavers—adolescents transitioning out of institutional care such as orphanages and foster homes.
• ▪️ The project focused on proposing a policy intervention to design specialized skilling and training programs that would enable care leavers to access white-collar employment. This involved an analysis of the National Curriculum Framework, supplemented by primary research through unstructured interviews with key stakeholders and secondary review of relevant policy literature.
• ▪️ The final policy brief was submitted to Udayan Care for onward submission to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, recommending targeted reforms.

• The fellowship was a stepping stone for me to successfully transition from being a civil services aspirant to actually joining the policy space and perform to my satisfaction in the job.

• ▪️ Led a team of two to scope, document, and analyze key deliverables as per the organization’s needs.
• I eventually stepped back from the project after realizing I had taken on more than I could manage effectively. Learned that often, lesser is better :)

• As a part of getting further industry exposure, I interned with BHEL, Bhopal for the summers of 2nd year at IIT. I worked with the fabrication unit of the manufacturing plant , specialized focus on Steam Turbine Engineering.
• ▪️ Studied the layout of the manufacturing unit with focus on layout design, ergonomics , routing and scheduling practices , industry safety infrastructure to effectively chart man-material management.
• ▪️ Produced over 100 pages of Gantt charts and reports for manufacturing and fabrication of hydro turbine to be used in Project Maheshwar.
• ▪️Performed material testing experiments ( under supervision ) in the Technical Service Department for the fabrication of heavy duty equipments.
• The experience was gave an eye-opening exposure to production planning and control, on the other hand, I got clarity about my desire of working closer to systems, humans and innovations as opposed to machines, matter and mines.

• Underwent internship training during the summers of 1st year at IIT, with the on-sight opportunity at the Steag O&M company in the 540X2 MW Thermal power plant in Vizag.
• ▪️Spent morning times in control room , understanding the operations, protocols and procedures of running the Boiler, turbine and generator region of the plant.
• ▪️ Evening hours spent on field visits and real time working with the field engineers at various modalities of the plant.
• ▪️ Got an introduction to environmental laws, Industrial hazard training, disaster management protocols etal.
• Perhaps got a hint of my temperament and inclinations being not suited for working as a technical person at industry shop floors.
