Alex Thomas — Operations Associate
For the last five years I've held the science teacher position at an alternative high school. I teach all things science - biology, chemistry, physics, oceanography, genetics, etc. to students who are behind on credits in high school. This may mean I have a classroom of students who range from 15-20 years old. This has been my first teaching experience and I've learned so much from this opportunity. I've learned how to manage a group of kids, to collaborate with a team of teachers, to be a self-starter and have good time-management, and (this one has taken me some time) to set boundaries for a healthy balance between work and home life. I just recently became a mom so this has been an important lesson for myself that I hope to take with me during my next journey. While I love working with students, my next career move will be into the lab sector of the science field. In high school I worked in the local hospital for course credit. I experience what it was like to work in the microbiology lab, the histology lab, the cardiology lab, and as a floor nurse. I would enjoy getting back into one of these areas to experience a separate side of the science field.
