Greg Kozakiewicz — Director of Engineering
While this profile summarizes my career to date, my recent posts and articles offer the most current view of my work, interests, and evolving areas of focus. Cheers. I'm a design leader with 25 years across agencies, government, finance, and enterprise. Lately, most of my thinking is about what AI actually changes in that work. Most of my career has been spent doing one thing: making complex systems make sense. Not in the "let me draw you a journey map" way, more like building the capacity model that shows your VP exactly why the team can't deliver five projects in parallel when everyone's in meetings 14 hours a week. The kind of clarity that's hard to argue with because it's built on facts, not opinions. I design the structures that help teams actually deliver. Workflows, processes, frameworks that turn "we're working on it" into something measurable. I've learned that in enterprise, progress nobody can see might as well not exist. So I make it visible. For the team, for the execs, for the people making decisions three levels up. I work just as well with small teams where I'm hands-on in the craft. Some of my best work has happened in five-person setups where the distance between thinking and shipping is short, and the design director also opens Figma. The scale changes. The instinct to build the right thing properly doesn't. I'm also deep into what AI actually changes in enterprise work. At Wemaymakeit, the small AI studio I run with Deniz, I've learned more about how these models actually behave in production than any framework taught me. Most of the interesting problems aren't about the model. They're about the gap between "this is amazing in a demo" and "this works in an org with legal, brand, and a design system that has to hold." That gap is where I spend a lot of my thinking time. I mentor and grow senior designers and managers, mostly by asking the uncomfortable questions early so nobody discovers the gap when it's too late. If your plan falls apart the moment someone's off sick for a week, we should probably talk about that now. I work best with leaders who see the system as the work, not the obstacle to the work. Open to a range of shapes here: VP, Head of Design, Director, or senior IC, as long as the work is real and the system is the point. Always happy to talk with people working on the messy middle of SaaS, fintech, or enterprise design. The part between the strategy deck and reality. I use this space to think out loud and share what I've learned. Photos by: Ollie Vasileva
