About

I help architects rediscover the common sense in large-scale IT architecture: IT strategy, cloud transformation, platform engineering. Rather than preach all the great things they could be doing, I focus on how it can be achieved: - by finding order in chaos - by diving into the engine room to come back with better IT strategies - by relentlessly fighting unnecessary complexity and corporate politics I've been called the "IT transformation jester" - trusted, influential, witty, and occasionally funny. My unlikely career path allowed me to learn entrepreneurship in a Silicon Valley startup, strategy at Deloitte, agile development at ThoughtWorks, internet-scale engineering at Google, and IT transformation at Allianz. Now i combine all of them to solve IT problems by seeing them from more angles.

  • Helping overcome the "serverless illusion": serverless reduces the need for operations staff, but increases the need for hard-to-find serverless architects and developers. I explored better representation of cloud services' run-time behavior in the type system of cloud automation, so we can move away from "2 integers, one string, 30 pages of documentation"

  • I support senior executives in regaining a close connection to their IT engine room. To reduce friction, increase decision discipline, and establish transparency, I dive deep down into the engine room (looking at a git repo change log tells you more than 3 months of steering meetings) and come back up with new insights.
