• This project quantifies and map the variable approaches that Britain, Canada, and the United States took during the 19th and early 20th centuries to policing crime across their territories. Controlling crime and morality did not end at the edges of national space. British, American, and Canadian administrators instead pushed out into the broader world, using their anxieties over family, crime, and economic instability to justify acting beyond their explicit jurisdictions.
