Which means I've heard "we need someone yesterday" approximately 4,000 times. I've built hiring functions, scaled them across continents, and led teams through growth phases, reorgs, and the occasional complete chaos. I've worked with businesses that had a plan and businesses that thought they had a plan. Both are interesting in their own way. What I've learned is that great recruitment is 20% process and 80% understanding what a business actually needs which is rarely what the job description says. At the end of the day this is a people business. The best hire I ever made wasn't the most qualified person in the room. It was the right person for that team, that moment, that culture. Getting that right takes more than a good process. It takes genuine curiosity about people. I've seen talent functions that work beautifully and ones that are quietly breaking everything. I know how to fix it and I know how to build something that doesn't break in the first place. And I've sat in enough leadership meetings to know that the best talent strategies are the ones nobody notices because everything just works.
