Personal goal pursuit

Jan 2024Dec 2024 · 11 mos · Erode, Tamil Nadu, India

  • I played tennis back in 6th grade but drifted away from it over the years. The urge to return never faded, so in August 2023, I started training again. But after being laid off from ShareChat in January 2024, I went all in—committing to it full-time. For a year, I trained six days a week, focusing on tennis, fitness, and conditioning.
  • My second serve became sharper, my longtime nemesis—the backhand—finally started cooperating, and my forehand saw major improvement. In the process, I lost 20 kg, built endurance, and gained strength.
  • At the same time, my sister had a baby girl after a precious pregnancy. Her name is Aura, and babysitting her became a big part of my days. As it turns out, caring for her was just as rewarding for my mental health as chasing my tennis goals.

  • I feel that design is a sense that develops via enhanced exposure, experiments, and escapades.
  • This break was one such escapade where I took things slow, staying close to loved ones and exposing myself to the different dimensions of product design - research, psychology, visual design, and content strategy.
  • I learned to build websites using Webflow and documented all my career's work, on my current website ---> arumani.webflow.io
  • On the side, I experimented with learning digital art, data visualization, color psychology, screenplay writing, and designing for accessibility.
  • Consider this break my "Sharpening the axe" phase, where I have reassessed and realigned myself.

  • As a Product Designer at Bounce, I had the chance to work with an amazing team, designing customer-centered products that took into account the technology, the business, and the growth strategy.
  • My designs were focussed on shaping the consumer behavior to promote good parking habits, to make users return the scooter helmets, to develop a community-driven approach for respecting local traffic rules. I was responsible for crafting user experiences for 25+ impactful features across supply (B2B) and demand (B2C) verticals. Also, I oversaw and contributed to building Bounce's Design system - Disco.
