• Identified scaling deficiencies and bottlenecks in the Watch GraphQL service and spearheaded the team in re-architecting this live service (Lambda) and redesigned production datastore (DynamoDb, DAX) to be batch efficient and improved logging (Cloudwatch). This reduced the infrastructure cost by 70% and improved the service latency by 35%.
• Designed the end to end architecture to support ingesting, storing and vending Captions for videos. Led a team of backend and frontend engineers in re-architecting existing video datastores to store captions (S3, ElasticSearch, DynamoDb) and vend captions data efficiently with CDN caching (Cloudfront). Also built a bulkload and self service framework for video editors.
• IMDb ingests watch view data from multiple sources for contents that are currently available to watch on different providers (streaming, theatrical, tv, etc). I redesigned the Watch Offers ingestion workflow by streamlining the data sources and simplifying the workflow (EMR, DynamoDb), which hugely reduced the operation costs.
• IMDbPro customers requested a feature to override their actor profile’s default Primary Video. To make this possible, I collaborated with multiple teams across IMDb and IMDbPro to implement a system to store and vend video overrides (DynamoDb). This feature launch resulted in reduction of customer contacts and was a huge success among IMDbPro customers.
• Led multiple operational excellence initiatives to improve development process, alleviate pain points, and reduce operational costs. I set up regular knowledge sharing sessions, service audits, ticket bashes and improved on-call processes.
• Mentored multiple new joinees and interns. Also assisted team members and external teams in design and implementation of a number of collaborative projects involving large scale data ingestion.

• Designed and implemented multiple distributed and highly scalable components that were key in successful migration of backend datastore used by IMDb Search functionalities from CloudSearch to ElasticSearch.
• Built a testing framework for the migration of advanced title search using a parallel internal only endpoint backed by ElasticSearch. This drastically accelerated the development process and helped us complete the migration faster.
• With the expertise gained on ES, assisted IMDbPro Search team to successfully migrate their search features onto ElasticSearch by guiding them set up their initial ES indexes. Also provided guidance on building a framework that allows for index upgrade without disrupting the continuous data ingestion using AWS lambda versioning.
