• In the past year we have begun to consolidate our stack around Elixir and GraphQL in the back-end and React and Relay in the front end. I believe these new technologies (along with some others) represent an industry trend which will underpin how we build applications for the next 5-10 years.

• I joined CoderFactory to run the first of their "FastTrack" full-time intensive courses. I both designed and delivered the course which was geared towards training students who had little to no experience to become hireable engineers.
• The course started with Ruby basics and introduced HTML/CSS and JavaScript, Databases and SQL, version control with Git and eventually moved to full stack development with Ruby on Rails. There was also a strong emphasis on agile methodologies. The students performed daily retrospectives and demos which was used to feed back into the teachings for the subsequent days. A technique I developed and called Sprint Based Learning.

• Debugging Diversity, the forthcoming film by CODR.TV and Endframe, investigates why there aren't more women working in tech and how the switch can be flipped on diversity in tech.

• Codr.TV is the Channel for Coders. It combines premium content with event presentations and third party videos to help new and experienced coders alike learn about technology and the industry. It is also a platform to help companies engage with the community and assist with their recruitment and technology brands.
• As an experienced coder myself, I could see great value in this idea and so set off to learn about making videos. I partnered with Kieren Wuest at Kwuest Pictures and together we are now producing a whole series of exciting content including several short episodes called "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Coders" and a feature length documentary about women in Technology called "Debugging Diversity".

• Codehire was created as an alternative to the current tech recruitment strategies of corporations. My business partner, Nathan Hockley and I realised that with a massive increase in demand for talented software coders but with a large scale market shortage, companies need to radically rethink their approach to attracting and selecting talent.
• In July of 2013 we ran an Australia wide competition called the Codehire Cup which attracted over 700 coders and some top-tier corporate sponsors.
• We are currently refining our business model and working towards a Minimal Viable Product.

• My core focus as CTO was to solidify structured development processes. This included continuous integration and deployment, metric analysis (such as code coverage) and code quality. I also introduced strict workflows which include peer reviews and formal QA.
• I introduced Agile (specifically Scrum) to the dev team as well as daily stand-ups and weekly iteration planning sessions.
• I also worked with key customer advocates and stakeholders (including the CEO) to determine the product direction and commercialisation strategy.

• I founded Codefire as a software consultancy in 2008 to capitalise on the growing demand for development of web 2.0 applications. Over that time the company almost doubled revenue every year and continued to maintain a profit.
• My role in the business was to guide the development team; hire new developers and other staff; plan and execute our sales and marketing strategy and company administration.
• Codefire worked with some great companies including Suncorp, Everyday Hero, Alcidion and One Big Switch - all of which I had a close involvement on both technically and otherwise.
