  • This paper examines the relationship between jet fuel price changes and airline stock returns
  • from 30/06/95 to 30/06/15. A sample of 75 international airlines from regions such as Asia,
  • Europe and North America are included in this study. Using a three-factor model, this study
  • examines the exposure that airline stocks experience due to jet fuel price changes. In addition
  • to examining this relationship, the study also investigates whether jet fuel price asymmetry is
  • present when jet fuel prices are increasing. The findings conclude that airlines stock returns
  • are negatively related to jet fuel price changes. Interestingly a number of airlines experience
  • positive exposures to jet fuel price changes. Jet fuel asymmetry is present and is most
  • pronounced when jet fuel prices are decreasing.
