Conscium

CEO and Co-founder

Jan 2024Present · 2 yrs 4 mos

  • Understanding the nature of consciousness is amongst humanity's most important questions. What is consciousness? Can we create conscious AI? Can we upload our consciousness to a machine? Answering these questions have a material impact on who we are as a species as well as our place in the universe.
  • Conscium is the World's first commercial organisation dedicated to the understanding, verification and validation of conscious AI and its implications for developing safe, efficient neuromorphic models. Conscium is an AI safety company with three workstreams:
  • 1. AI agent verification. Verification of AI agents developed by third parties to ensure they are beneficial and not harmful.
  • 2. Development of neuromorphic systems. Neuromorphic computing refers to technologies that can process information more like a biological brain compared to existing approaches, making them far more adaptive, scalable and efficient than current AI.
  • 3. Research into artificial consciousness. This workstream is led by Marks Solms, Chair of Neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town. This research aims to better understand what consciousness in AI systems and machines would look like, and, if and when machines do reach consciousness, what the moral and ethical implications would be.
  • Conscium was founded in 2024 in London by a team including Hulme, Ed Charvet, Calum Chace, Ted Lappas, and Panagiotis Repoussis. Conscium has recruited some of the world’s leading neuroscientists and computer scientists to its advisory board, including Anil Seth, Mark Solms, Karl J. Friston, Anthony Finkelstein, Benjamin Rosman, David Wood, Jonathan Shock, Megan Peters, Moran Cerf, Nicholas Humphrey, Nicky Clayton, Nikola Kasabov, Steve Furber, and Suzanne Livingston. Supported by these world-leading experts, Conscium is creating a neuromorphic computing lab to research and validate the capacity of machines to acquire consciousness, making them safer for humanity.

  • The Marshall Institute works to improve the impact and effectiveness of private action for public benefit. By private action we mean the activities of philanthropic foundations, social entrepreneurs, charities, NGOs and individual citizens, donating their time, money, ideas, knowledge and skills to serve the public good. By public benefit we mean activities that serve an explicitly social goal. Very often these interventions involve significant risk. Almost always they involve outcomes that are hard to measure. They are always improved by understanding. Core examples of private action for public benefit are:
  • Philanthropy - the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes.
  • Social entrepreneurship - people who pursue an innovative idea with the potential to solve a community problem and who are willing to take on the risk and effort to create positive changes in society through their initiatives.

  • Assimilation Systems: http://assimilationsystems.com/
  • Assimilation Project: http://assimproj.org
  • Assimilation Systems provides an open source discovery with zero network footprint integrated with highly-scalable monitoring. Here are the problems we address:
  • Organizations are vulnerable to attack through forgotten or unknown systems (30% of all intrusions)
  • Organizations have no automatic infrastructure discovery, or they run it infrequently
  • System discovery is not integrated with monitoring
  • Most organizations have no way of knowing they're monitoring everything - and probably aren't
  • Most monitoring is time-consuming to configure, incomplete, out-of-date, easily confused
  • Monitoring is complex and expensive to scale.
  • What we do: Continually discover and monitor systems, services, switches and dependencies with very low human and network overhead
  • Discover systems, services, switches and dependencies using zero network footprint techniques
  • Monitor systems and services with very low overhead and extreme scalability
  • Make monitoring easy to configure and manage
  • The Assimilation Project is designed to discover and monitor infrastructure, services, and dependencies on a network of potentially unlimited size, without significant growth in centralized resources. The work of discovery and monitoring is delegated uniformly in tiny pieces to the various machines in a network-aware topology - minimizing network overhead and being naturally geographically sensitive.

  • WIDE IO is a revolutionary online platform that helps innovative software companies to integrate the best algorithms in their new product. It is a marketplace where engineers and scientists can access thousands of data-analysis algorithms related to image-analysis and video-analysis. Because our algorithms follow well-defined standards, it is easy to compare them. It is useful for businesses to select the right algorithms to include in their new product, and it is useful for scientists to establish how their new algorithms will perform with respect to the state of the art. Unlike our competitor, ALGORITHMS.IO that struggles to get algorithms in their catalogue, or KAGGLE that has a large number of users but a poor retention rate, our offer is able to convince academic and non-academic partners to become regular users of WIDE IO.
