• Many people don’t know what an autopsy surgeon (aka a medical jurist, a police surgeon, or a forensic doctor) does. To become an autopsy surgeon, one has to do MBBS and then MD in forensic medicine.
• 1. The mainstay of our work is postmortem examination, 🔪 which many people already know about. PM examination can be of a dead 💀 body or a part of a body, like a decapitated head or limbs.
• Sometimes we have to go to the graveyard 🪦 with the magistrate and the police 👮‍♀️ to dig out the body and conduct an autopsy on that body after special requests in suspected cases of homicide.
• 2. Age estimation in living: In criminal cases like rape, kidnapping, or trafficking where the age of the person is unknown, we determine age by looking at X-rays of the joints and by dental status on the request of the police or magistrate.
• 3. Age estimation in the dead💀:
• In some cases, like when a dead unborn child is found or a part of a body is found, we have to estimate the age of that exhibit by applying various criteria and give a report to the investigating officer.
• 4. Injury report: When a person comes with an injury to casualty, 🏥there are two important things. The first and the most important thing is the treatment 👨‍⚕️ of that injury, and the second most important thing is the documentation of that injury.
• 5. Sickness and fitness certificates: These certificates are issued for various reasons, like joining a government institution, going on leave, etc.
• 6. Potency certificate: The forensic experts issue this certificate in cases of examination of the accused in penetrative sexual assault cases.
• 7. Examination of the victim and accused in cases of sexual assault: We examine the victims of sexual assault to look for various injuries and evidence of sexual assault.
