Elijah Lopez — Software Engineer
When it comes to software engineering, I aspire to be the jack of all trades. I'm comfortable working with backend systems, websites, frontend frameworks, DevOps integrations, desktop apps, scripting, and even mobile (react-native). My hot take regarding Python is that it's only as productive as inexperienced you are. With Python, you delay the inevitable hard work you'll have to do once you start caring about performance. However, if you code something difficult to begin with, the next time you do it it'll be easier. I'm not throwing shade at Python use for AI by the way, however someone did put in the hard work to create llama.cpp! I'm currently working at a Startup based in the US. I am very passionate in what I do and take great pride. When technology does not work as desired, I investigate and decide whether to abandon it or not. One notable example is leaving the Medium platform to self-publish my blog. I have articles ranging from software development tutorials to my memories from when I was a child. In December 2022, I claimed a $2,000 bounty within the Monero community related to C++ cross compilation linking bugs. It's a testament that intuition and determination can beat experience. Current Interests: Finance and making RSS great again. What kind of person am I? I drive a sexy red Lexus IS 350F, I'm short the Qunatum Computing company IONQ, I don't like options because unless you know something is up, it's speculative / gambling. Although I dislike gambling and "sin" in general, I have no problem owning shares in these types of companies. BTI, GAMB, defence companies, healthcare. Although I will say that the latter two industries I do not see as sustainable (with the exception of Canadian companies, shoutout to Kraken Robotics). For some reason people have gone mad and think O&G companies are sinful to own. The climate change fanatics don't have a clue that share price doesn't matter for stocks that pay dividends. I never understood their ideology, although I did make an effort to try. I write blog posts, maybe once a month on average. I write when I become passionate about a topic I feel has not been thoroughly or adequately explained. A few examples are: Canada's problems are entirely artificial, a realistic alternative to first-past the post, why ASIC-Resistant proof-of-work blockchains are more secure, and a bunch of finance articles I should probably amalgamate.
