Hands-on tech lead for the distributed file system and owned several areas of the product. Owned the roadmap of datapath and smartfiles (NAS) initially and worked closely with the PM team later to help set the direction of the product. Investigated new areas, led the development of several features and proposed novel features and optimizations.
Worked on all the layers of the Cohesity distributed file system. Implemented several features including File and Directory cloning, Defragmentation, Load balancing data across cluster, Disk selection, QoS, Share / Volume management, Multi-Tenancy, Tiering between various disk types and the cloud in a distributed cluster.
Implemented SMB3 protocol in a scaleout shared-nothing cluster from scratch and the first version was done with one other person in 4 months. Worked on several features over time to have fully functional and scalable SMB3 implementation. Also worked on the NFS implementation.
Several performance optimization and features including small and large file optimizations, metadata acceleration, Global dedup, SnapTree (Distributed B+ tree) etc.
Also served as the team's engineering director earlier as the startup grew and handled management responsibilities such as hiring, mentoring, project management in addition to technical contribution. Hired more than half the team of about 14 engineers at the time. Switched back to IC / technical leadership role full time to focus more on technical issues.
Handled customer escalations, helped with pre-sale deployments, presented to customers and press.
