About

My experience with data analytics spans over 6+ years of working with Python, SQL, Unix, Excel, Tableau, Looker, Google Spreadsheets, Kafka, S3, API's. I've primarily provided data insights for industries like eCommerce, Retail, Renewable Energy etc. The cool thing about data is that it can tell you everything you need to know about your business. The not so cool thing about data is that it can tell you nothing or tell you the wrong things about your business." My role as a Sr. Data Analyst is to help you extract the stories and insights that are relevant and rich in meaning which helps my organization in improving the quality of our products than our competitors in the market and making critical business decisions related to cost optimization etc. I strive to achieve this through a number of ways as listed out below: 1.Organize the datasets Nobody likes working in a messy environment. Why should it be different with data? Datasets can be huge and cleanliness and good organization are mandatory. 2. Make datasets beautiful It should be easy to read the data. Consistent and clean formatting doesn't only ensure correct data structures, it also makes it easier to work with. 3. Make the collection of data an easy process Today every business works with large datasets and the more it can get, the better. The collection of data can be a nightmare, though. Getting your datasets from the platforms and tools you use to run your business should be automatic, consistent and done as fast and as frequently as possible, instant ideally. 4. Tell stories, don't just show charts It's part art, it's part of technical knowledge. This is probably the highest challenge for any data analyst and data scientist. Telling the relevant stories, unearthing the interesting insights will always be the most interesting part of my job. I'm currently intensively learning R, Statistical Models, and Algorithms. Apart from these I do automate the manual tasks to improve the productivity. Most of the time you would not realize that something that is a part of your company day to day operations, can actually be automated using python, excel and google API's. 1. Get Data from API's into Sheet for analytical Purpose. 2. Send automated daily/weekly reports to the supervisors and top-level employees in organization. 3. Monitoring dashboards and look for a dip in KPI's and report the issues by triggering an email to the specific audiences. 4.Auto query tuning using some pre-defined configs to improve the database performance etc.

  • Writing effective and scalable code for various applications in python. Played a crucial role in developing an application to integrate data flow between multiple data warehouses. I worked on an E-wallet application where we used PLSQL for data management and python for server-side code.
  • Apart from application development, I worked on multiple data engineering tasks where I developed and created effective tables (using proper indexes and partitions), views, projections, and complex queries, stored procedures, Triggers, and UDF's. Tuning the performance of bad performing queries to decrease the load and increase the availability of the database. Streaming the query log data using Apache Kafka to the HP Vertica database. Detecting bad table designs (tables with improper indexes and partitions) using python and shell scripts.
  • I played a pivotal role in developing multiple dashboards using Tableau, to monitor and analyze the KPIs related to the retail and educational industries. We used some of the statistic models for the detection of a sudden change in key KPI's behavior.
  • Apart from this, I coded multiple shell and python scripts to automate most of the manual tasks carried out as a part of daily or weekly work (like the creation of reports, tracking the KPIs, fetching data from third-party websites, etc).
