About

I build software systems that scale, with emphasis on performance and security. Many can build systems that work for a few users.- but for a system to work well for thousands or millions of users - it must be designed and built right. After almost three decades of designing and building web applications and frameworks, I have a deep and extensive knowledge in software development, from high level system design, all the way down to the bits that flow over the network. My passion for programming began at a young age. I started with BASIC, followed by Pascal, Assembly, and C/C++. In 1995 I started building web applications, and in 1996 I fell in love with Java. I later wrote a desktop application for event planning in C#, and more recently picked up Go and Python. JavaScript and CSS came with the territory of Full Stack Development. In 1997 I built my first custom Shopping Cart, and shortly afterwards an Online Auction website. In 1999 I built a CMS and a CRM, though no one used those acronyms at the time. Since then I have built and maintained many B2B and B2C applications, which made me highly proficient in ▸ Performance ▸ Scalability ▸ Security ▸ Databases ▸ Data Structures & Algorithms ▸ User Experience ▸ User Interface Design ▸ E-commerce ▸ Full Text Search ▸ Natural Language Processing ▸ Online Marketing and much more. As an Open Source advocate I have contributed to many projects. I am a project management member for Apache Tomcat and the Lucee Application Server. When you've been in the Tech industry for such a long time, the "50 Skills" limit that LinkedIn imposes doesn't even scratch the surface. For example, when I added Kubernetes and Go, I had to remove other skills, so consider that a (very) partial list.
