  • Provided technical patterns and platform for multi-brand Design System. This project introduces Typescript to the codebase, and utilizes many popular tools such as Storybook, Playroom, React Testing Library, and Chromatic. Focus is on Quality Assurance, so various forms of testing have been baked into the project from step one.
  • Simplified current CMS patterns, by building out the tools required for Marketing and Creative build composable pages out of predefined modules, replacing the tightly coupled templates/documents which currently exist.
  • Moved towards a more sophisticated domain driven design with an nx powered monorepo, ensuring everything is multi-tenant by default. Automating product page creation across serta.com, beautyrest.com, and tuftandneedle.com to provide improved product launch capabilities, and unify functionality and capabilities across the ecommerce stores.
  • Optimized the initial load of the checkout application, removing several seconds of potential load time before customer interaction could begin.
  • Simplified build/deployment process, cutting Vercel deployment times in half. This improved developer efficiency, and provided the ability for more timely introduction of rollbacks or hot fixes.

Technical Lead

Jan 2020Dec 2020 · 11 mos

  • Oversaw the transition of sitewide promotions from being a 100% manual engineering intensive task, to a fully automated process which could be driven by marketing and creative.
  • Working closely with Architects, provided technical support and grunt-work for migration of tuftandneedle.com from Vercel version 1 to version 2.
  • Executed CRO experiments on the checkout, and implemented the winners without downtime or service disruption.
  • Oversaw addition of multiple new payment types to checkout, including Apple and Google pay, and Paypal express checkout.
  • Prepared the checkout flow and other areas of PX responsibility for the Black Friday and Cyber Monday week promotions. The promotional offerings were the most elaborate sequence of back to back promotions with changing offerings that Tuft & Needle had offered up until that point. Promotion week came and went with minimal engineering involvement.
  • Instrumental in contributing to initial next.js patterns and best practices during early stages of T&N's conversion to next.js.

Front End Engineer

Dec 2018Jan 2020 · 1 yr 1 mo

  • Assigned to high profile and time sensitive projects for building and launching the ecommerce websites for serta.com and beautyrest.com. Acted as tech lead for the front end of these projects.
  • Streamlined build by removing unnecessary build tools such as gulp and grunt, and consolidated templating under a single system.
  • Refactored asset bundling from a custom mincer build process to webpack, allowing usage of es2015 features.
  • Implemented GitHub release tagging for production deployments to more easily facilitate regression tracking and production rollbacks.

Debut Album - Producer

Jan 2015Aug 2015 · 7 mos · New York City

  • Self produced my debut album, Watering Can.
  • Watering Can
  • Trombone heavy, original, modern/avant garde jazz. From the land of the long white cloud, via New York City.
  • The name Watering Can was reached in a roundabout manner. Several years ago, while still at school in New Zealand, Jackson put together a recording session with a few horn players and a pianist, and informed everyone to bring along some miscellaneous percussion, which they could play at any time they felt inspired to, due to the lack of a conventional rhythm section. One individual had the audacity to bring an old, beat up watering can; which he then, with great fervour, proceeded to bang with a stick. The fantastically preposterous event obviously stuck in Jackson’s mind, and later provided the inspiration for an equally absurd album title.
  • Watering Can consists entirely of compositions written by Jackson himself, and draws from a wide range of influences; from the sometimes sparse and always playful melodies of Steve Lacy, to the various stops along the artistic spectrum of Jackson Pollock and René Magritte, all the way to inanimate objects.
  • To realise these ideas, New Zealand trombonist Jackson Hardaker assembled a ragtag group of global nomads in the form of: Dutch guitarist Syberen van Munster, Italian bassist Lorenzo Kim Sandi, and Canadian drummer Nico Dann.
  • The music can be at times haunting, surprising, humorous, and traverses the musical styles of rock, swing, march, punk calypso, and beyond.
