Vamoos

Head of Department (JavaScript)

Jul 2023 โ€“ Jul 2025 ยท 2 yrs ยท Remote

  • Vamoos has beautifully designed native applications for iOS and Android and a companion web application for viewing travel itineraries and interacting with travel plans. There's also a portal for travel operators that enables them to modify the presentation and features of their travel itineraries.
  • I was responsible for the initial build and delivery of an AI-assisted image library tool integrated into the Vamoos platform. It uses Postgres, PgVector and a specific set of training models to parse itinerary data and recommend images from your library based on a number of factors (such as keywords, location and context).
  • I have the responsibility of leading a team of several developers and ensuring they have what they need to remain productive and feel comfortable within their role and responsibilities.
  • Working primarily with Node, React, Postgres, MySQL alongside an AWS infrastructure with CDK (EC2, SNS, SQS, Lambda, ELB).

Collums

Head Of Engineering

Jul 2022 โ€“ Jun 2023 ยท 11 mos ยท Manchester, England, United Kingdom

  • Collums had a robust suite of tools for clinics and medical establishments to enable productivity and management. The stand-out feature was certainly the calendar, which was filled to the brim with features and filters that enabled staff to very quickly understand upcoming appointments and context throughout the days.
  • I had to manage a small in-house team and a Brazilian offshore development team. The offshore development team were leaving the project shortly after I joined, and I was responsible for the handover of a very large platform with only a month of experience within the platform myself. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, we were able to find a nearshore development partner in Poland and did a successful handover of the project and continued development.
  • The primarily technologies used were NodeJS with React and Typescript. The infrastructure was primarily in AWS constructed using CDK. CDK was not present before my time at Collums but I pushed for the inclusion of infrastructure as code. Deployments became much easier to manage.

Fatsoma

Project Lead (Fatsoma Tabb)

Jul 2021 โ€“ Jul 2022 ยท 1 yr

  • I've been working with Fatsoma for the last year or so integrating our platforms after their aquisition of my business. I spent a lot of time migrating from the Serverless Framework (using AWS) to bringing it in-house with Terraform and Terragrunt. Fatsoma use Go heavily and integration was fairly simple as we did too. I've worked with other development teams to ensure that information has been desiloed and an in-house team is now able to take charge of future developments.
  • As a result of the aquisition, I have helped bring on extra developers and sourced additional team members to sustain the growth of the platform. This included performing interviews and onboarding new employees whilst delivering product updates in a high-growth environment.
  • I oversee the development of upcoming features and products - including a new dashboard written with React. An entirely new PWA using Ionic with Angular has been developed to ensure a great experience for customers.

Openmoney

Frontend Developer

Sep 2019 โ€“ Jun 2020 ยท 9 mos ยท Manchester, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom

  • At OpenMoney, we currently use Ionic 3 for the Mobile Applications. I've been responsible for separating the UI into reusable components and I've done this using StencilJS and Storybook. This allows the design team and the development team collaborate in a very close manner - and ensure that the product looks and performs as the designers would expect.
  • I look to bring as much of the platform to Web Components as possible, which means in the future, applications can be made to be framework-agnostic - whether it would be React, Angular, Vue or any upcoming frameworks that might dominate the market.
  • All components are tested using Jest with a number of test cases that designers and developers alike would expect the component to pass. If a component has to be made in a very limited timeframe, there is a requirement to add TODO tests in the files so the developers and designers can be made aware of uncertainty in the project.

Connex one

Senior Frontend Developer

May 2019 โ€“ Sep 2019 ยท 4 mos ยท Manchester, United Kingdom

  • I was the Lead Frontend Developer for multiple projects at Connex One. I used a number of tools daily to ensure that deadlines were hit and that the work was being completed to a high calibre. We used React/Redux for SPA's and Cosmos for writing/testing components in isolation.
  • A very high-calibre environment with rewarding work - I have been able to apply knowledge from all areas of software whilst delivering these projects.

Sky

Senior iOS Engineer (Contractor)

May 2016 โ€“ Aug 2016 ยท 3 mos ยท Leeds, United Kingdom

  • I provide my services to a team named Varenberg. We build and integrate independent and reusable components to be used across the entire suite of Sky mobile applications. I have had exposure to a number of applications and I have written dependable, stable code that runs on hundreds of millions of devices. Security and scale are paramount in my daily decision-making. With each decision, I must strongly consider the effects it would have on security and scale.
  • I follow the standard Agile development process. I use tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Git, Xcode, amongst others to ensure the work I complete has documentation and is tracked. I partake in backlog grooming sessions, daily stand-ups, retrospectives and other agile-esque activities.
  • The culture at Sky is fantastic. The offices are great and they look after the people who work with them. The buildings have their own cafeterias where food and drinks are heavily discounted and very delicious.

Theladbible group

Lead Application Developer

Jan 2016 โ€“ Apr 2016 ยท 3 mos ยท Manchester

  • I was responsible for the development of sophisticated applications with massive reach. I developed the applications with a team of talented engineers whilst also ensuring that we had processes in place to ensure rapid and efficient development. I implemented continuous integration and deployment of the applications and have also written a number of guides that engineers should follow when working on the applications. It was my responsibility to ensure that the application engineers can develop, build and deploy the applications in the most efficient manner possible. This involves the creation of acceptance tests and user stories, using confluence for documentation and Jira for managing sprints using the scrum methodology. I worked closely with the Data Science team to ensure that we track the correct analytics from the applications and also use these to implement A/B tests in the applications. I worked with the Software Development Manager to create a roadmap for the applications and report any progress to him. I also work with the UI/UX team to make the applications beautiful and a pleasure to use. This role has presented many challenges.

Fatsoma

Lead iOS Developer

Mar 2015 โ€“ Jan 2016 ยท 10 mos ยท Manchester, United Kingdom

  • Develop, maintain and deploy applications that a distributed to thousands of devices worldwide. The applications allow people to browse events, purchase tickets and enjoy a new kind of social experience.
  • I have been responsible for developing an improved workflow by deploying a build server with continuous integration (jenkins) and hooking this up with the communication software within the company using Hubot. Flowdock is used for communication within the company and has a bot (fatbot) who is able to communicate with the build server and distribute builds of different GitHub branches to whomever requests it in the communication tool.
  • I am responsible for ensuring that the application is released smoothly and without error. I do this by introducing TDD into the existing codebase. Appium will also be used for integration testing and to ensure that the application is as stable as possible.
  • I am also integrating A/B testing into the mobile applications to ensure we are making effective decisions on the copy and the designs/user experience within the app.

Laterooms.com

Professional iOS Developer

Dec 2014 โ€“ Mar 2015 ยท 3 mos ยท Manchester

  • Develop, maintain and deploy applications that are distributed to hundreds of thousands of devices worldwide. The applications allow people to find, view and book hotels for great prices whilst offering a great user experience.
  • I have worked with a large array of software to maintain and deploy the applications and these involve continuous integration software, version control, project management tools, testing suites and more. The role involves a lot of pair programming and code reviewing which helps develop vital skills in becoming a good software engineer.
  • Jenkins is used for continuous integration and it's closely tied with Github. Jenkins is configured to automatically checkout pull requests on GitHub and run standard unit tests and behavioural tests. GitHub/Git are used for version control. I have experience using a project management tool called LeanKit which is used to create stories and tasks for each of the sprints.
  • Whilst developing the applications, TDD and BDD practices are used. Calabash/Cucumber are used for BDD which means that it's written in the Ruby language. The applications need unit tests and behavioural tests for almost all of the functionality in the application and this is what helps us create a stable and fantastic product.

Rormix

Lead iOS Developer ๏ฃฟ

Jul 2014 โ€“ Dec 2014 ยท 5 mos ยท Manchester, United Kingdom

  • Design, develop and maintain an innovative and feature-rich application for iOS. I have been responsible for re-building the entire application architecture from the beginning. I have one responsibility and that's to create a responsive and entertaining product for the audience.
  • I've worked closely with the Lead Android Developer and the designers. I've influenced the design of the application and implemented any features that have been requested. I've used a huge array of tools whilst working on the Rormix Application. The largest benefit of this role was being able to make mistakes and learn from them and being able to choose how I implement features or which features I believed to be too much hassle.
  • The application is fast, responsive, well-designed and helps music listeners to find new taste or talent from artists that are not popular enough to be considered 'main stream' or artists that are just looking to increase their reach to advertise to a large number of users.

  • Develop, maintain and deploy Enterprise quality applications that are distributed to hundreds of thousands of devices. The applications are created to monitor consumer behaviour on Mobile Devices and will help to advance the Marketing industry significantly.
  • โœ” Software Development
  • I used tools such as Perforce, Jenkins and Jira. Perforce was using in harmony with Jira to manage the projects very effectively and allow for much more flexible code reviews. The projects were completed in an Agile manner and code reviews were required for any change in the code base. I was both subject to code reviewing and being a code reviewer. Jenkins is a build server that was used to manage the building of the application on multiple platforms and has automated build steps which saves a significant amount of time as opposed to doing it on each developers local machine.
  • โœ” iOS Client Development
  • I used Objective-C and XCode to develop iPhone Applications that were performance critical and required smart techniques to complete the tasks that were given. I have had experience with private frameworks and exposing the lower-level hardware on iOS Devices. I had to develop, maintain, provision and deploy applications through the entire lifecycle whilst building a white-label application. I used the Jenkins build server to manage the builds for the applications and I was responsible for maintaining the certificates for the applications alongside using a provisioning server.
  • โœ” Android Client Development
  • I used Java and Eclipse to develop Android applications that were similar to those on the iPhone. Given that the platforms are completely different, I had faced different challenges and obstacles that I had to overcome. I was responsible to developing, maintaining and deploying the Android applications. I used the Jenkins build server to manage the building and certification of the Android applications.
