About

I am an autistic ADHDer and military veteran with over 10 years of experience in the fields of social services and education. I offer my lived experience and my formal academic training (MS in Experimental Psychology) as subject matter expertise in policy change, advocacy, research, and public discourse. I know the struggle of trying to function (not even thrive, just function) in a world that's not designed for you. I masked for decades. I read all manner of books on social skills, getting along with people, and professional development. I tried to translate everything I heard, thought, and saw into "neurotypical" and respond as quickly as I could. But my brain is fundamentally different than most people's brains, and that's not going to change. I now seek work that is aligned with my values of authenticity and compassion. We are different, not less.

  • I ran my own holistic wellness coaching business offering primarily virtual 1:1 sessions. I was particularly interested in working with people like me who are neurodivergent or who have a chronic condition, but I was open to working with anyone who wants support beyond what they've been able to find in standard Western medicine. I also offered sessions for caregivers, a general Q&A, and other themes.

Social Services Specialist

Jan 2021Jan 2024 · 3 yrs

  • During a three-year period, I explored careers in social services and teaching, seeking roles that would align with my skills and interests. Through this exploration, I discovered that I thrive in environments characterized by minimal small talk, clear expectations, standardized procedures, and a focus on working with numbers. These roles, while valuable, helped me realize that my strengths and preferences are best suited to a setting where efficiency, precision, and systematic processes are paramount.
