Yo, I'm Matt Mike 👋 (yes, Mike is my actual last name). My career path has been far from linear. Here are the cliff notes (that's still a thing, right?) 2015: graduated with an English degree 2016: became a teacher 2017: became a dean of students 2019: left education for B2B sales 2019: hated sales. took a pay cut to become an operations analyst 2021: got promoted to operations supervisor 2022 and onward: became a business analyst (FIRST technical DATA JOB). Started documenting the journey on social media where I now have a combined following of 100,000+ tech professionals. I've been through a few different data roles with progressive complexity and now do BI consulting while continuing to help others progress their tech careers through content. Because of my background, I have a passion for helping people with non-technical backgrounds break into tech and advance their careers. In this role, I led Maven's live cohort program while also acting as a product analyst for the business unit, and instructing within the program. This program taught students the fundamentals of Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python in a live setting. I conducted A/B testing and hypothesis testing to optimize conversion funnels for the program. Ultimately the program was dissolved by the company as they transitioned deeper into the B2B space and I was let go as a result.

In this engagement, I supported the City of Gilbert IT department by standardizing reporting processes in Power BI as the company was transitioning away from using Tableau. I developed key reporting for several departments - such as police, courts, and public works - which required unique and creative solutions. I also created documentation and trainings on Power BI to assist end users in both using and creating their own reports.
One of the funnest projects in this engagement involved creating a completely automated public-facing court docket, viewed by 100s daily at the Gilbert Municipal court. I had to bust out HTML scripting for this one!
