On March 17, 2023, I made a phone call that saved my life. I was giving a quiz to my university class when my phone rang repeatedly. The caller was my medical doctor. I stepped into the hallway to listen to the voicemail which urged me to call my doctor immediately. I hesitated, then made the call. The previous day, I’d gone in for tests thinking I had a kidney stone, but the tests came back very serious. My doctor insisted I needed to go to the Emergency Room ASAP‼️ My bilirubin count was off the charts, and my liver wasn’t functioning. I went to the ER instead of my planned family trip to our beach house on Daufuskie Island. If I hadn’t called (& gone to the ER), I'd have been on an island with no bridge & no hospital when the sepsis hit. Instead, I spent Spring Break in the hospital with 2 emergency surgeries, a loving family, incredible friends, & tons of prayer. In the hospital, I kept thinking of my relationship with God & my family. I’m thankful to own dozens of real estate properties & 19 businesses. It’s given me the opportunity to employ hundreds of people. But at the end of the day, those aren't the most important things. I never anticipated being an UHNWI, but money is not the end game. Prior to the ER visit, I’d resisted social media and lived a private life. I came out of the hospital as a 43-year-old realizing I was living on borrowed time. I’m now using LinkedIn, YouTube and other social platforms to share business and family lessons I’ve learned along the way. I’m privileged to own nearly 50 real estate properties (residential and commercial). I own businesses in the sectors of aerospace, hospitality, sports, pets, retail, and real estate. However, my identity is not found in my bank account, businesses, or real estate. As a Christian, I believe my ultimate identity is in Jesus Christ who died a sacrificial substitutionary death to make eternal life possible and save me from my sin. God graciously let me marry Abigail, who's far better than I deserve. After two miscarriages, God providentially gave us 5 amazing children. What a blessing! I'm privileged to speak around the US, but the days I look forward to most are those spent with my wife and kids at soccer games, getting bagels at Panera on Saturday mornings, or reading a story together as a family.
