About

Feeling odd about writing in third person, but doing it nonetheless, Pedro stands as a quick-delivering, quality-driven trilingual recruiter completely in love with his profession. My drive to find the best possible match between candidates and job positions in a ridiculously fast work environment makes me squeal with joy. If recruitment were a music gig, I would be playing drums in a grindcore band. (google it!). At the same time, and coming from a background where I was either formally or informally both a team manager and a culture carrier, I've become a People & Culture Manager as well, more or less by accident, but very happy for that fact!

Lead Recruiter

Jan 2025Dec 2025 · 11 mos · Hybrid

  • First day today (January 6th)!
  • Went to the office in Lisbon (it's totally optional, but it was great to meet some colleagues face to face) and had a really nice time.
  • I'm joining Altar.io as a Lead Recruiter, doubling the recruitment team (now composed of my colleague Marcelo and me) and focusing on recruiting all the people we need, helping review procedures, suggesting automation where possible (no one likes manual work!) and throwing in silly dad jokes. :)

Remote

Senior Recruiter

Sep 2020Oct 2022 · 2 yrs 1 mo · Everywhere!

  • Joined Remote as the first recruiter (and first member of what would become a full fledged, 26-strong recruitment team). Created the hiring process (there was none) and managed talent acquisition for all departments in the company.
  • For several months focused exclusively on Engineering, but the rest of the time worked for many different areas. In 2022 I was focused on Legal, Customer Experience and Financial Services.
  • Created a complete training hub for recruiters so that, once joining, the new member of the team could be totally prepared for their job in a fully asynchronous way.
  • Was responsible for hiring roughly 22% of the 1000 employees workforce that Remote got to until recently.
  • Also, I've created a Slack emoji for every newbie for the longest time, until it became too time consuming - and then I created a quick training video to help newbies do it themselves :)

Unbabel

Senior Recruiter

Mar 2018Sep 2020 · 2 yrs 6 mos · Lisbon Area, Portugal

  • First recruiter in the company. Recruited ~270 Unbabelers in all areas (R&D, S&M, G&A) with a stronger emphasis in Product, AI, and Engineering. Onboarded newbies, presented them at the All Hands (and people laughed, so maybe it was funny). Helped create procedures, train managers on how to interview and hire (using a program I created), and strengthen culture (won the 2019 Culture Carrier Prize). Co-built from scratch a performance management system. Also, I played drums in the Unbabel band!

  • First day at the job! Very much impressed so far. Will report back. >>>>>> you know when you are so enraptured in your work that you forget to pay your promises? I said I was going to report back soon and here I am, a month later, doing it. Sorry! Here it is: great company, great colleagues, a lot to learn and to share. Wicked!

Teleperformance portugal

International Recruiter

Oct 2013Apr 2016 · 2 yrs 6 mos

  • The project I was working for was basically complete, by that time, and I got an invitation to help out at Teleperformance's recruitment department. My initial tasks were related to CV insertion and language validation (English and Spanish) but I got the chance to grow, learn the trade and find out, after all these years, what my true passion is and where my real abilities lie - in recruitment! As an International Recruiter on a neck-breaking speed work environment I'm never bored and I get to accomplish an amazing feat - to 'marry' the perfect candidates to the perfect positions. The joy on the candidate's face and the trust that i get from my clients - the project managers - is the biggest gift I could receive, professionally speaking, and it makes me grin like an idiot. I found my passion - to recruit people - and I want to take it as far ahead as I can get. Let's conquer the Moon!
  • Update: as i try to grow as a professional and learn more, I've decided to move on to a new experience in another company (same type of gig, though, recruitment <3 !).
  • So long Teleperformance, and thank you for all these crazy years!

  • So creating questions for quiz shows was (and is!) a blast, but it was not really enough to pay the bills, and with a child coming I decided to return to my previous line of work - call centre! I knew that I loved helping people out, that I got a kick out of that, so I applied for Teleperformance and stayed there until April 2016! Eventually I became a Team Leader and a Supervisor but, not wanting to become a Peter's Principle example, asked to go back to my TSR position. Not many people do that, do they?
  • Anyway, the by-now-mythical [client name withheld] team became a second family to us and we still hang out periodically, including many - like me - that are no longer working at Teleperformance. The 5-year anniversary picnic is just around the corner. Can't wait for it!

  • So the international crisis brought the TV sector to a grinding halt and newcomers like me were the first ones to be affected but I was lucky enough to be invited to work for the New Year's Eve TV special Gala das Galas for RTP. Got to work with the same fantastic production team as on the previous experiences at PF and had the honour to interact with Herman José and many other famous comedians. Fun, hectic times. Loved it!

  • One of my best friends ever got an invitation to integrate a team of writers for the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire quiz show but, having no free time to do it, she mentioned my name, and I got the gig! Over 6 years have gone by (really?) and somehow I pop out new questions every week; in 2016 for The Big Picture, a snappy and fun quiz show, and Apanha Se Puderes (Rattle the Cage), a frantic quiz show that is the 2017 rage . I've learned way more than I thought I would about all sorts of trivia topics - it's talking material for days on end. Maybe I could be a good candidate to share a desert island with...
  • Update: I've also worked on the Mental Samurai quiz in 2019 :)

  • So the TV area beckoned me, and I was thinking about returning to Portugal for good, when I got a call from one of PF's directors with an invitation to work on a new humour show, to be called Notícias em Segunda Mão. 24 hours later I said yes! My task was researching photography and video material for green screen and Live on Tape recording. I suggested the creation (on Adobe Indesign) of fake press cover pages and they loved it - I got to make (mild) fun of famous people on national TV. Super!

  • Taking a two-month sabbatical from my two jobs in Madrid, flew in to Lisbon on an invitation to do research (themes, news, images, and audio) for the insanely popular TV show Gato Fedorento Esmiúçam os Sufrágios. Got the chance to work directly with the Gato Fedorento quartet (what a blast!) but even more importantly with an incredible production team lead by the fabulous Patrícia Almeida. I soaked all the knowledge I could from them and mastered my negotiation and argumentation skills. Also learned how to solve what seemed like impossible tasks in a matter of minutes - again, thanks to the best.production.team.EVAR.

  • The day is 24 hours long, I was bored, why not get a 3rd job, amirite? After a couple of years of fansubbing (subtitles made by fans), got this great gig that paid no money at all but allowed me to keep several media centre devices (if you got one from that time, check the Portuguese menus - I translated them) and HDs for free! Best Xmas gifts ever from me to the family, they loved them. Had to stop it because Portuguese customs were taxing the devices way too much. A shame, really.
