  • Embedded as the lead product designer within Goldman Sachs' KYC operations team, working across business stakeholders, compliance leads, and engineering to redesign the analyst case management workflow from the ground up.
  • The problem I was brought in to solve:
  • KYC analysts were managing high-stakes compliance cases across 5+ disconnected systems — with no unified view of case status, no standardised workflow, and manual Excel updates as the primary reporting mechanism. Every analyst had developed their own workaround. The portal existed, but analysts started their day from email.
  • What I did that went beyond design:
  • Conducted a 6-day time-and-motion study embedded with analysts on the floor — observing actual behaviour vs. stated behaviour. Found a critical gap: what analysts said slowed them down and what actually slowed them down were two different things. The real friction was invisible in interviews alone.
  • Uncovered that analysts faced severe cognitive overload not from data volume, but from inconsistent interaction patterns across systems — every step required a context switch, rebuilding mental state from scratch.
  • Mapped the full case lifecycle end-to-end, identifying redundant steps, manual handoffs that could be eliminated, and 3 workflow gaps with clear potential for AI agent automation — flagged as roadmap items to the PM and business stakeholders.
  • Wrote and reviewed user stories and BRDs alongside the PM, ensuring design intent was preserved in requirements — not just handed off as visuals.
  • Presented research findings and design rationale directly to GBM business stakeholders, advocating for analyst needs against competing business priorities.
  • Proposed and designed an inbox-style case queue — shifting the mental model from "portal you log into" to "workspace that tells you what needs attention" — directly addressing the email-as-starting-point behaviour uncovered in research.
